Breaking down NCAA proposals for college basketball recruiting - ESPN

Proposals would alter college basketball recruiting calendar yet again - ESPN

I would love to hear the thoughts of some guys on the board who are involved in AAU and summer leagues as to the proposed rules changes. The SEC proposal would gut AAU.

It seems clear that some types of changes are coming, I wonder what you would propose?

It does not sound like a bad idea to me to allow tryouts to occur for players who are on an OV. Also just as football schools have camps, it would not be bad for schools to be able to run them.

If there was a knoxville camp you might get in some of the guys you are wanting, but you could fill out the roster with local kids and let coaches from ETSU, UTC etc come and check them out.

I do not know the right fix for the current system, but I do know that AAU coaches and the $$$ surrounding the big time players means that agents and fixing is going to be a big problem in bball until changes are made.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

And yes, this is an area where I will publically acknowledge that I think Hat should have some insight if what I have heard about his coaching/scouting is true.

Why is the SEC going on a crusade against AAU? Don't get me wrong. I understand how flawed the system is. I'm just curious as to why we're the league proposing radical changes.

With the way the system is set up now, high school coaches are often left out. I think that is wrong because it's the high school coach who is on the kids about their grades and such. AAU coaches swoop in and get too much credit!

Because the SEC is the only conference that has the balls to do anything.
