Recruiting stuff

News flash wilburn, this class will end up top 15 or better. And the whole point of my comment was that despite such a horrible season we're still going to end up with one of the top 15 recruiting hauls in the nation. You can say what you want about his coaching, but I don't think there's any doubting his abilitty to recruit.

Unless you can develop them and turn them into title contenders, having the Recruiting Champion trophy amounts to winning the third grade spelling bee.

guys, can we please keep at least one topic on this board factually based? this one was doing really well until the last three posts (thanks for opening the floodgates, wilburn). there is always a place for opinions, but I was hoping to find at least one topic where i could go and read posts like "vols just signed .... from ...." rather than reading posts like "UT's going down, fulmer sucks, blah blah blah."

Try looking for those listed on the main board. Look at the topic. This is a broad topic. And since when did ANY topic on this board remain factual?

I hope this post is not out of line with your thread. In regard to Tim Hawthorne, I've seen him play several times. I hate to say this, but I hope he is not a Vol. After watching our current WRs half assit on the field in 2005 we do not need another one cut from the same cloth.

Homewood HS played against our loca HS team in late October. Since Hawthorne was on our chart, I pretty much just keyed on him during that game. Here are a few remarks from me and several others watching him.

A. He doesn't block down field.
B. A ball was intercepted in front of him by our DB and he made NO attempt at tackling or chasing down the DB.
C. Homewood calls their offensive plays from the sideline with the team loosely at the LOS. When the play was called, if Hawthorne wasn't a part of the play, he just stood there.
D. He has very good athletic ability but an even larger ego.

Folks, we need players that have heart, guts and determination. This kid ain't it.

I'm not sure if it was on this board or somewhere else that I read similiar comments about Hawthorne but he sounds like a real prima donna to me. We certainly don't need more of those, especially at wide reciever.

Hey wilburn, do you ever say anything that's not cynical in some nature? Let's keep this thread to recruiting news.
So here's my tidbit-- My high school's neighboring school, Varina has a student by the name of Brandon Minor. He's the #1 fullback and narrowed his decision down to the VOLS and michigan. Well, 10 min ago he picked michigan. Sorry guys this isn't better news

It seems like several coaches are making a lot of house calls. Did Bobby Bowden really go to Alcoa? Does anyone know if CPF is on the road right now? If so, who is he calling on?

What a load of bollocks. :bad:

Fulmer creates a 5-6 team that loses to Vandy b/c he was too tunnel visioned to see the year to year digression and then he barely pulls off a Top 30 class and he's done wunderful?

First, I like you avatar. Second, you do realize that the reason UT is the "Big Orange" is because of the Scots-Irish (i.e. "orangemen") history of Appalachia?

Thats funny, I heard it was because of the daisies and that "Big Orange" was coined by Ray Mears? :ninja:

Geeeeezzzz! you gotta be kidding. The Orangemen tortured and brutalized the Irish in the Belfast and Londonderry areas. There is no Irishman ALIVE that would purposefully pick a color related to that group. Methinks there is too much mercury and lead in your moonshine. You couldn't be any further from the truth. What are you thinking?

The daisy answer is correct for the team color. Ray Mears coined the phrase Big Orange Country.

Bingo!

BHAMVOLFAN gets the OldVol Stamp Of Historical Correctness!

It's not worth much, but rest in the knowledge that your Vol History is right on the money.

O.K., What daisys?

The school colors are utilized in Tennessee's famous checkerboard endzones at Neyland Stadium. The unique design accompanied coach Doug Dickey's arrival in 1964 when the Vols played Boston College. The colorful and popular end zones were a part of Tennessee football until 1968 when the natural sod was dug out and artificial turf was put in its place. In 1989, with Dickey as athletic director, brought the trademake endzones back when workers installed the orange and white end zones and the interlocking UT at the 50-yard line in the summer of 1989. They were both completely inlaid with contrasting colored turf rather than painted turf. The Orange & White checkerboard end zones continued when the Vols returned to natural grass in 1994."

Considering this whole area is loaded with Scots-Irish it's dangerous to make a lopsided comment like that. And the Greens did no evil themselves? Killings, shootings, bombings? Why are we even discussing this??
