When the more than 400 nominations for the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl were released earlier this month, Florida led the nation with 55 nominations.

“The phenomenal year that it is in Florida has really been reflective on the selection process of the U.S. Army game,” said Rivals.com recruiting analyst Barton Simmons. “If you just look down particularly at south Florida and the talent down there, it goes without saying that there’s going to be a tremendous amount of that talent headed toward San Antonio.

“It’s going to be really exciting to see them compete on a national stage.”

“Every year it’s one of the top states in the entire country right up there with California and Texas,” he said. “But this year, it’s even a step further in what they’ve been able to produce so far. Looking at south Florida alone, there’s so much talent in those three counties of Dade, Broward and Palm Beach that there are in most states.”

Gran is even more important this year.

UF cant sign all the talent in the state so that means we can land some top tier guys. I predict that Gran hauls in at least 8 to 10 guys from south Florida.

I live in west palm and I have talked to some of the high school kids that live on my block. They all play football and some of them at different schools. They have all told me UT is always around their practices. I showed them a picture of Gran and they all said that was the UT guy they kept seeing. Keep up the good work, all of the South Florida kids have UT on their minds. GO VOLS!!!

I said 6-7 about a month ago. I think that's about right.

We are aggressively attacking major talent hotbeds. The sky is the limit with this staff.

The focus is obviously on Memphis, top TN talent, South Fla, Atlanta/GA, LA, and CA. Like someone said earlier those home state schools cant get everyone and we are going to be right there to snatch up some studs.

From 1998 to 2009 (12 seasons) we've averaged having a little under 6 players from Florida on our roster. Of course that's not new players each year, just the number of guys who come from florida and are rostered. The most was 8 in '02 and '03.

But. . . over the last 5 years the state of Florida has averaged 196 recruits each year going to BCS schools. It would be interesting to see us in double digits from FL, especially those evaluated and brought in by this staff.

On a side note, Texas has averaged 195 and Cali 165 over that same 5 year period. The state of FL has averaged 31 more BCS recruits per year than Cali. . and Cali has double the population.

I was just talking about South Florida. We should be close to, if not in, the double digits in FL players.
