Does anyone have any idea of how jones is with recruiting. Has he ever recruited top talent or will we be getting the diamonds in the rough who we will coach up to compete with fl, ga, ala. Also I do not think that this hire will help save recruiting at all this year. I am afraid that all our decent commitments, as few as there are, will leave and we will be left with dooley's dregs. And with any decent player on the team that can bolt to the NFL probably leaving, at least 2 - 3 more years shot at even a winning record.

Score one for CBJ with this. From 247:

As I said before, we're working on finding out what Jones' staff will look like at UT. However, we do believe that Jones is interested in speaking with former Tennessee quarterback Tee Martin about a position on Jones' Vols staff.

We have word that one current UT assistant hasn't been told if he will be kept or let go at this hour. We'll keep you up to date as best we can.

UPDATE: We have learned that Martin has been contacted about the possibility of being on Jones' staff.

He keeps Jay Graham and brings home Tee, then he has hired not only two great recruiters, but two guys who know what it's like to be a Vol.

After watching a couple of his videos and how his players react to him; my gut says that he will do just fine in the rcruiting department.

Do you guys really expect cincy to be a top 10 recruiting school anyway? Seems that he has done pretty well with the limited talent he has had - definately more than can be said for our previous staff.

I don't know much about how Butch Jones recruits yet, but I was looking over his past couple of classes at Cincy and he can recruit in the south. Several players from Florida and a couple from Georgia and Memphis. Obviously lots and lots of players from Ohio, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I know recruiting is HUGE in college football, but I just don't get how college football fans can hang ALL of the recruiting success and failure on the HC.

The head coach doesn't recruit in a vacuum. He has responsibility and oversight of course, and so he obviously has a great effect on recruiting, but there are many more factors. The school atmosphere, the facilities, the traditions, etc. All play into it. He will absolutely recruit much better players to play here than at UC. But, he also has to play against MUCH better players and recruit against schools with the same bells ans whistles that we have here.

That said, you still have to coach them and get them to play as a team. If recruiting classes were the only measure of success, the other UT would be in the NC hunt every year.
