It seems that the apologists for Martin are recycling all the excuses. "It was a road game against a ranked opponent." "It was a sandwich game." (whatever that means ... I didn't feel like eating) "They are improving." "It won't matter when the tournament starts." "The defense didn't play well." "They just got outscored." And on and on and on and on and on ... just excuses over and over. It's time to start a full fledged coaching search!

Shouldnt take long to finish the search since we already know who we NEED.

Tennessee seems to control the paint in the defensive end but the other team controls it in the offensive end. The absolute refusal to ever employ a zone defense allows every team to drive and shoot layups because they can beat the man-to-man. It sickens me to watch the good players to drive to the basket at will against Tennessee's defense while we throw up way too many bricks underneath!:banghead2:

Ben Howlind! Have you seen his resume? Back to back Final 4's

No argument here. Like I keep saying, if CBP is not an option, then my first call is to Smart to make him say no, and then Howland. You know he's hungry and his track record is impressive.

Only if the others knew he is not a option.lol

I wish he was, but trying to be realistic. I know Smart probably isn't either, since he turned down two better programs last year, but if were to make a Brinks truck type of hire, which we won't, I would make it Smart. Howland is intriguing to me though.

Smart is my first pick

Hate to break it to you, but Martin isn't going anywhere soon.

The one that really gets me is......"UF is ranked #6 and we were on the road so we were not expected to win"...

Coupled with this one..... "this loss doesnt really hurt our chances to make the NCAAT and it's really not a big deal"....

Funny thing is that many of these "excusers" were talking about how CCM was 3 and 0 against Donovan and how the Vols had a good chance to beat Florida at Florida because CCM has their number.....

LAUGHABLE!!!!!!

CCM is 1-3 vs Georgia, Bama, and Ole Miss. So, what are the excuses gonna be when our Vols get beat vs Ole Miss on Wednesday night?

Tennessee was a nine point underdog. It wasn't expected to win.

The point is, there are plenty of failures under Martin that rank much higher than this one. It would be like football fans wanting to fire Butch for losing to Auburn or Alabama while looking past the Vanderbilt debacle.

I was speaking of the posts on this site that were puffing up the Vols over the Gators....

Do I need to pull them out???

Don't pull mine Patrick.
I'm just an impish trouble maker and enjoy puffing the embers.
I was ready to cut Martin Loose after the Bama/ Mercer debacles last season.
Common opinion was to wait and see what he could do with some talent on the roster.
I'd agree the jury is in. It was in for me after UTEP.

Sorry, I guess I missed that the puffing was your main point. I'm just defending the fact that this was a game few had Tennessee winning, even though we all hoped for the best considering Martin's record against UF.

The way Tennessee competed is upsetting, but I can't imagine anyone being up in arms because we lost this one. We've had worse losses this season.

Yes I was speaking of puffing not the actual line or media predicts. A loss is a loss in the score book however I do think that there is a difference in perception of a loss by say 6-10 pts and a loss by almost 30 pts.....

The latest round of excuses (after losing to Candy) is, "It's OK. It won't hurt tournament chances." I guess that's because tournament chances are getting smaller and smaller.
