Ehh, I wouldn't say he's wrong. Plenty of authoritarian laws have been enacted to gain support from religious organizations.

I oppose a lot of that, but the scale seems to be far different. Off the top of my head right now the right is passing bills regarding tik tok and public performances I disagree with but if I contrast that vaccines, covid, social media, economics, guns, etc the two sides don’t seem close in terms of authoritarianism. Biden openly mocked the idea of freedom multiple times while talking about vaccines

I get it and agree but I'm a firm believer that if we let the religious have their way they will be just as bad on the opposite end of the spectrum. The lefts authoritarianism is endorsed by the mainstream at the moment.

This just won't do at all. You posting something I agree with? UH-uh, unacceptable! Sadly, history certifies your comment. Too often, the religious, use their so-called holiness to be not just authoritarian, but inhumanely cruel. The Inquisition, Church of England's prosecution of Protestants, Puritans and later other Christians' attitude and treatment of Native Americans, and our LONG history of out-and-out cruelty toward Chinese immigrants, Blacks, Native Americans, Jews, and for a good while, the Irish, just to name a few. Religious zeal and governing is NEVER a good deal, which is why the USA insisted on separation of church and state. But here we are, ignoring that policy.
