I'm an early 80s born Vol.... Reggie White was one of the greatest defensive lineman in the NFL.... He got attention as being a Vol but never seemed to get as much as I thought he should but don't recall his college career cause I was too young.... Was he dominant during his time at UT as one of the best college players or did he show how elite he was more in the NFL?

Yeah, he was dominant. Derrick Barnett finally passed his sack records in 2016.

Reggie White is a Vol Legend for both his play at University of Tennessee and in pro football. There is justification for his number being retired and his presence in both Hall of Fames. Was an incredible person with deep faith as well.
At Tennessee he was an outstanding defensive lineman that blew up in his Senior year when he was All American and SEC player of the year with as many sacks as in the two previous seasons Combined. He had some nagging injuries his junior year. Vols reached 9 wins for the first time in over a decade.
RIP Reggie.

I can't remember which year, but they were looking for Reggie after practice, but he wasn't in the locker room.

They found him out working with the special teams---fielding and returning punts! He begged the coaches to let him return punts in a game, arguing that he was as fast as their regular returner.

Amazingly agile for a big man. And, as you note, so strong that it sometimes looks like he must have been unblocked but really he just blew right through the block.
He really was amazing. Certainly one of the top 5 defensive linemen of all time.

The Minister of Defense was absolutely dominant. Watching UT for more than 50 years, in my opinion he was this best defense lineman I have ever had the pleasure to see. He took over games.
Doug Atkins was the best I have ever seen with Reggie being the second best. Both were dominate and essentially unblock able.

I remember him doing that when LSU played in Knoxville, '83, I believe. He got into that backfield so fast and just blew up Dalton Hilliard right as he was getting the handoff.
