Reid demands "no-pardon" pledge from Bush

Reid should go piss up a rope and learn about the separation of powers.

I didn't care for some of the pardons Clinton threw out there, but there's no way I'd want to see the President's ability to do so hindered or taken away.

Yeah, Libby is really innocent. That would be an outrage.

Yeah, Reid isn't out to take political advantage of the situation - that would be an outrage.

Why does every thing have to be political?

Libby was found guilty, and shouldn't be pardoned.

And to MG1968, where has Reid called for this power to be taken away? In the article he just says Libby shouldn't be pardoned.

When did pardons become the prerogative of the Senate Majority Leader? To imply this wasn't politics again renders your opinion as worthy of 100% of my ability to disregard.

When did any decision the president makes have higher regard than the first amendment? It's his right and job to call that moron out. Libby was found guilty of the crime. Are you really saying Reid has no authority to have an opinion on the issue?

Reid can voice an opinion.

Bush can equally say FU to Reid and issue a pardon to anyone he pleases.

Both actions are officially sanctioned by the Founders and the Constitution ---- (strains of God Bless America...)

Both are also political moves.

as a Senator, Reid is in no position to demand anything of the President, particularly when it comes to powers given to the President by the Constitution.

Reid can hold a press conference and give an opinion on why Libby shouldn't be pardoned, but he oversteps his role when he just assumes he can tell the President what to do.

Libby should be pardoned, or at least never serve a day in jail. If Sandy Berger can compromise national security by stuffing top secret documents down his pants and then hiding them underneath a construction trailer, and then be slapped on the wrist with probation and community service, Libby should receive no worse.

Exactly. While we're at it, everyone should get away with murder because O.J. did.

Yeah, the damage is already done so why not pardon the scapegoat? Maybe Libby needs to contribute some money to someone and then buy out his pardon. Or tell Dick he's going to spill the beans if he doesn't get his pardon.

Exactly why he will get a pardon. This is risk management. The political fallout will come with either, but it will be much worse if he spills the beans.

But the flipside is can this get any worse? We know the basics, we see Iraq, and the WH credibility is very low....what is left? Anything of Watergate proportions?

I think the a strong presidential candidate in 08 can live through a pardon. If Libby spills the beans I think voters will hold the entire party responsible.

I am not convinced that voters think Iraq was a bad idea, the way the has been conducted is another matter.

I'd like to ask for a clarification here. Where did Reir threaten to break the separation of powers? Where did Reid threaten to hinder or take away the ability to pardon? I may be missing something here but to come out and make that allegation is stretching this just a bit don't you think?

The fact of the matter is that Reid is well within his rights. It is his tastefulness that is really in question. Some people are offended when directives are made to the president by some half baked Senator.

An impeachment that resulted in????? Absolutely nothing that mattered to the man. Avoid the question, but Clinton received a pat on the wrist (slap would be too strong) for doing exactly what you're excoriating Libby for.

If anyone should be impeached, it's Bush.
What good will it do? It's a process that takes forever and would end (if he were somehow found guilty of something) with a solution that you want no part of - Cheney in charge.
