Can i throw a shout out to my dad, who ALMOST died in battle, but didn't die until the age of 93, sixty-some years after his service? He was a first lieutenant that was ordered to move his men from Northern France to a place called Brectesgaaden (sp?).
Shortly after they moved out, one of the men in front of him hit a trip-wire tthat launched a Bouncing Betty. The Bouncing Betty is a grenade that is shallowly buried, but launches uup to about chest level before exploding.
Sure enough, it did, and he caught a piece of shrapnel in the chest. They tossed him in the back of a truck, which did a lot of bouncing, itself, through the war-torn land as it transported him to the nearest friendly medical outpost, where he made his recovery.
For those that don't know, that place I'm sure i misspelled a while back, Brectesgaaden, was also known as The Eagle's Nest, or Hitler's Palace.
