Just a thread to voice concerns of what the hell is going on with our star player

Think we took Re for granted always expect 20 points from her a game now we are lucky if she even gets 10 points.....I want the old Rennia back😭😭View attachment 329537
Something is wrong, for sure. I hope Rae or Kellie or another coach can inspire her.

It is curious. I wonder how she is doing in practice? I guess I shouldn't try to speculate until she or coaches say something. Hopefully it is just a slump that will quickly turn around.

She seems disinterested when she’s out on the floor. Could be something going on off the court. I hope not but she seems off. I hope she can turn it on cause the combo of her and Rae could be something special

We got to many players trying to bull their way to the basket. Take the short eight to ten footers and see how you do. I think it gets players especially Rennia doing to much worrying about the play they just made. I think she will come out of it soon just play smarter and take good shots.

Slumps happen to the very best players. Rennia is coming off the weirdest, off season that any one can remember (of her generation at least). And she is getting off to a slow start. Stuff happens but things change.

Rennia's demeanor on the court has always been low key (when she is playing well, she is the "silent assassin" and when she is not, people read all kinds of negative implication into her "poker face" but that is all projection).

It is wonderful that Rae is going great guns right now and it would be even better if Davis were flying high but what really matters is how they are playing once the conference schedule kicks. I expect that Rennia will be just fine by then.

There a whole lot of things to worry about in this world right now but Rennia does not need to be one of them.

Davis, Horston and Burrell need to be in double figures for us to win these close games.
Offensively, our post game is a joke. Also, concerned about opponents guards being able to dribble past the perimeter defense.

Madtownvol, what do you think about Kellie benching Rennia for a few games if she can not play her way out of the doldrums?

I’d guess she will come around. But, Burrell is the star player by a wide margin this year. Her skill level and quality shot creation ability is far better.

I'm not Madtownvol, but I'd like to say that I don't think it would be wise to bench Rennia. How would kicking her when she's down build her confidence? She has been one of our top scorers in 90% (or more!) of the games she's played as a Tennessee Lady Vol. How are we gonna punish her for having a couple of games where her confidence dipped?

That said, if I were Kellie I WOULD have a long talk with her about doing a much, much better job of not letting her frustrations show so much in her body/facial language. Rennia is coming off as a player who can only be into a game if SHE is scoring well. That's a terrible look. But it is something she COULD control if she tried. The scoring will come, but right now I'm more concerned about how her mannerisms could be perceived as selfish and how that perception could affect her future.

Madtownvol, what do you think about Kellie benching Rennia for a few games if she can not play her way out of the doldrums?

On the one hand, Kellie could move her into the 6th man role and see if coming off the bench changes the dynamic in a positive way. The way Kellie subs, Rennia can get as much playing time in a sub role as a starter. Honestly, I was surprised Rennia did not get a few more minutes against Furman. She played 20 minutes in total, sometimes in 3 minute stretches. Personally, I think that would have been a good game to let Rennia try to find her flow.

On the other hand, Rennia is a senior and has been the teams' go to player for the last 2 seasons. so benching her would be kind of big deal. So, I would be inclined to stick with "the horse that brung ya". Draya Carter gave the formula in her commentary- don't worry about scoring, contribute in other ways and eventually the offense will come. I am sure that is the message the coaching staff is giving Rennia for the Texas game.

You all need to stop this ****.

I agree this is crazy, No knock against Rae and she played well we should her her props. And for Davis yes she is pressing right now but she will get it together her shots will start falling. Now this benching of Davis talk is just foolish after just 4 games. I notice when we beatdown a cupcake some on this board think we have knocked off one of the top teams in the country. But at the end of the day everyone is entitled to their own opinion,

So she's drawn front iron for two -- TWO -- games. C'mon, settle down. Bigger things to worry about.

We all know what Rennia brings to the game and she's too good a player that her current slow start is a reflection of what her year will be. I have no doubt that she will be back to her normal form by the time SEC play rolls around.

As good as Rae has started, Rennia is still a key part of this team.
