I am coming to Knoxville for the LSU-Tenn game. Bringing the wife and looking for a nice, white tablecloth restaurant. Saw a place on the web - The Orangery. Can someone give me a recommendation.

Coming up with 2 couples - all in our late 30's with kids. I am looking for something nice and upscale - the best Knoxville has to offer. thanks

The Regas and/or the Orangery are probably your best bets. The Copper Cellar on Kingston Pike is also an upscale dining experience. If you choose the Copper Cellar on the Strip, make sure you eat in the Cellar and not the Cumberland Grill.

Orangery is the real deal. Haute cuisine in an haute cuisine environment. I had my graduation dinner there, and it is still great.

The Cellar is good as well on the strip. Never ate at the one in West town.

Some fols will steer you toward the Regas, but it has fallen off a bit. A real shame.

if you're going to The Orangery or Regas, be sure you still have room on your credit card, money in you checking account, or cash in your wallet.

if you are eating with friends and kids, i would suggest Calhoun's. good food, good prices.

the Copper Cellar is always great, although I dont know if its the nicest Knox has to offer. But highly recommended.

I have only been to the Copper Cellar on the strip, and it is good. I also like Riverside Tavern, just below the Marriott.

However, in both places on a game weekend, expect to be shoulder to shoulder and prepare yourself for an 11 hour wait for a table without reservations, which may not be possible to get at this late date.

On the riverfront near the stadium. It is where a lot of the Vol Navy people are.

Bayou Bay on Chapman Highway has very good Louisiana cuisine and is run by LSU fans.

The Orangery is the best restaurant in Knoxville for the atmosphere you describe.

A couple of other ideas:

If you are into sushi and trendy, Nama (downtown) is great. I also really like Bistro By the Tracks (Bearden area), for more traditional fare.

Calhoun's has the atmosphere of gameday, but I'm not impressed at all by the barbeque. You're better served (palate-wise) by Riverside Grill, IMO.

No hesitation about the Orangery. Pricey? Yes. But once you have the Lobster Crepes, you know where your money is going.

There are tons of other great places to eat in K-town, for sure. If you are staying out west and are interested in recommendations this way, let me know.

I've always been a big fan of the Krystal on the strip. Be careful, though. A 12 sack of Krystal Burgers could run at least 5 bucks.
