Richard Petty Takes Over RPM

That is good news for a change re RPM. I am pleased that Petty will still be involved in the sport hopefully for the long term. There are so few of the early teams left, really only one other, the Wood Brothers is still around, and their future is uncertain. Why is this important you might ask? It keeps a continuity with the beginning of the sport and provides the value of the knowledge of what has transpired in the past.

I was talking to a Nascar insider and he said don't be shocked to see Trevor Bayne run the first five races in the #21 next year.

Petty did such a good job running the team the first time around, I can't wait to see what tricks he has up his sleeve to make it work this time.

This is like a NASCAR version of a town throwing cash in a pail to keep Buddy's Hardware open in the same plaza as a Home Depot. Everyone's heart is in the right place, but hell, this is dumb.

Kyle Petty is going to be glad his dad cut him out when Richard loses all his money.

I wish him luck. It wouldn't be the same NASCAR without a Richard Petty owned team in it. Or without Richard Petty in general.

You can call me a dumb sentimentalist too, but I cannot see why anyone would not want Richard Petty to continue in NASCAR. He was a big part of bringing NASCAR from the regional sport it began as to it's national prominence. Why is his continuance a bad thing, if he wants to put up money of his own, that's his privilege. Success may be slow to come, but I would not be surprised to see a more competitive effort from a slimmed down team.

I would love to see Richard do well but it's an uphill battle competing against the bigger and stronger teams out there. I think his odds would be a little better if sponsorship wasn't so hard to come by. It's tough when even Jeff Gordon can't lock down a full time sponsor and has to split time with 3 or 4 different sponsors. I just have a strong feeling he will lose money on this but I don't wish it to happen. I hope I'm wrong.
