If his hammy issue is minor and he plays next week I say he takes over as starter and the Gators cover vs Bama

Everyone and their brother knows Richardson is better than EJ but Mullen is a combination of loyal to a fault (probably promised EJ this is his year as thanks for sticking around as a backup as long as he has), stubborn (he told himself EJ will be good enough this year with his coaching) and frankly vindictive towards fans and media who are all saying Richardson should be starting (which contradicts what he has been saying and it makes him grumpy). This is just as bad or worse than when he did this with Franks and Trask.

I'm pretty sure Richardson tweaked his hammy on that long TD run and I have to wonder if he would have tweaked it had he been playing and warmed up instead of sporadically coming in and out, being cold on the bench. Any chance the gators had of hanging with Bama is predicated on giving Richardson the reins and I don't think Mullen was going to do that even if Richardson was 100% healthy. Bama is going to put up a ton of points on Grantham's trash defense. Mullen outfoxes himself just about more than any coach I've seen.

It's not our decision, Dan is quick to let you know Emory is still his guy...Dan is a great a great coach and we're lucky to have him, but crap like this very frustrating...It's irrelevant how much more of the playbook Emory knows than AR if he can't execute it properly, and it's also irrelevant that AR doesn't know the entire playbook if all he does is go 80 yards for a TD every time he touches the ball.

Works for me.

Always happy to read about other CFB (especially SEC) football coaches weirdly loyal to a QB.

Ftr, I hope this whole situation causes locker room turmoil, and team fights, and causes them to lose🤣
It won't...AR is the consummate teammate, and wonderful young man....He's probably going back to Twitter as we speak drafting his Tweet about how Emory is still the starter and how much he and the team support him.

Lulz…it looks like Richardson’s hamstring may have bailed out Mullen for at least one more week.

As for locker room turmoil, Richardson and Jones are tight so I doubt that happens.

We don’t beat Bama regardless of who starts next week, but it’s frustrating to see a guy who patiently waited for three years struggle, while 15 looks like a generational talent and Mullen won’t budge.

I have never, in my life, seen anything like AR, and I’ve seen all the great ones up close and personal.

Mullen’s being a little stubborn but I think he’s trying to give Emory every last possible chance to make plays and stave-off the inevitable.

This guy AR runs like an elite tailback but also makes NFL throws. Holy crap!

Mullen is losing the fan base over this.

Richardson is clearly superior to Jones.

15 is downright special.

Richardson is insane. He looks more athletic than prime Cam, and his passes were perfect today. Two were to wide open receivers but the last one was an NFL caliber throw off his back foot in tight coverage. When Jones continues to struggle Mullen is going to not just lose the fans but the team as well. Jones can't read a defense to save his life.

Jones can read a defense, but usually the play is over before he’s done reading it.

Mullen also knows he’s gonna need both of these guys as the season progresses (Emory and AR). AR pulled his hamstring badly in the spring and it’s been an issue in fall camp, although it’s been fine the last few weeks until today.

Mullen is trying to keep Emory’s head in this, it’s not easy because Emory knows what the rest of us know.

So, he takes it 70+yards or stiff arms/jumps defenders for 20 yard gains damn near every time he runs the ball (averages 25 yards a carry).

But the question was “can he throw?” Well, yeah, apparently. lol. He’s a phenom there too. These type of throws are what has people going holy crap! This is a 45 yard rope, on the run, being pressured. Unreal:

He's looked good against 2 bad teams but Alabama is a different animal...And just curious as to why he is wearing #15?...I thought maybe they would've retired that number by now.

UF doesn’t retire numbers, and Richardson requested the #15 jersey.

And Jones looked bad against two bad teams, hence the love for Richardson.

Yeah I know, Sounds familiar...I didn't know they didn't retire numbers there...Interesting...Special number to be wearing.

It’s no more special than a QB choosing to wear 7 or 11, or a RB wearing 22.

(That’s a very unpopular opinion on UF message boards fwiw.)

Marketing. NIL. He’s already got AR-15 merchandise out.

Yeah we got the BS playbook excuse with Jamal Lewis back in the day too. When you have talent like that you get them on the field, period.

Agree it won't matter who starts or gets the majority of snaps. We can't hang with Alabama in enough aspects of the game for it to be competitive. No one can.
