Funny thing---leverage...

"Georgia Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt argues a call in the third quarter of play against the LSU Tigers during the SEC Championship NCAA football game in Atlanta AP

With (laughable) rumors flying that Mark Richt is a candidate for Texas A&M as its next head coach, the current Georgia head coach is in the beginning stages of the renegotiation process.

Funny how that works, eh?

Anyway, UGA athletic director Greg McGarity confirmed to Gentry Estes of Dawgs247.com that he and Richt have commenced discussions that could/should lead to a new contract for the coach. Richt’s current deal runs through the 2013 season.

“Mark and I, we discussed for the first time today, moving forward,” McGarity told the website. “We’ve started that discussion, and I’m sure we’ll talk further. We didn’t have a lot of time today since he’s got a huge (recruiting) weekend.

“But we are moving that discussion forward. He and I had a great discussion this morning. I know Mark wants to be here, and we want him here. There’s just some things we need to work on moving forward.”

Th initial contract talks come less than 24 hours after Brent Zwerneman of the San Antonio Express-News reported that Richt is in the mix for the A&M job. McGarity told multiple media outlets that there’s “no truth whatsoever” to the Richt-to-A&M talk.

Silly season rumors aside, Houston’s Kevin Sumlin, as he’s been for more than a week, remains the front-runner for the Aggies opening. Unless TAMU can land Bill Belichick, of course." - John Taylor December 9, 2011, 12:33 PM EST

My sources are telling me he is seriously considering Muschump's offer to be the OC at UF.

Hang on folks. It could be aTm or UF (as an OC). I'll keep you posted.

Is he off the hot seat?

I would say yes, but there's still a good portion of our fanbase that still don't think he will lead our team to the top of the SEC. They are concerned about the extension earned mainly due to a weak SEC schedule. They have a valid argument but I also believe CMR has things headed in the right direction.

Our offense looks good and our D has all the pieces of what could be a dominant D.

No, it was a joke. Just throwing out more crazy rumors.

CMR was not and is not going anywhere else. He's all UGA.

Nice, UGA. The gullible and naive bite so easy...like shooting fish in a barrel.

next year seems to be setting up very well for you guys as it should be for tennessee as well. i think the UT and UGA game in Athens next year will be for the east, which i give the edge to UGA

That sounds familiar...

Haha, a raise and an extension after winning the East in a horribly down year. Where have I heard that before? The parallels in his career with Fulmer are astounding.

But, but, Fulmer won a MNC and Richt hasn't. I've already discussed this before with many other Vol fans. :)

We slid our way into the SECCG in 2007 and lost to LSU, just sayin'

I didn't realize until I just read it . . . richt is only under contract for 2 more years which is pretty rare for a big time coach. Some serious negative recruiting probably happening right now over that.

Why is that funny? UT's offense will be a scoring machine. Bray - Hunter - Rogers - Croom - Pig - Lane - Smith - Young - Hill - possibly Patterson and possibly Davis. Just on offense.
Defense is going to be in yer face solid. To many good names to mention.
Bottom line is that UF is a smoldering mattress at this point. USCe has questions on both defense and offense. GA has a solid defense but I think that our offense is loaded at every angle to push them. The game is in Athens and it should be a great one. Who are you picking,,,Vandy????

Kirby Smart is the king of negative recruiting.
