One of the best schemes in college basketball, and his players respect the man. Hopefully, Belmont can pull off the upset today.

Always liked the guy, I had hoped he would have replaced CBP but alas. Always runs a top notch team

Would have been a terrible choice to replace Pearl.

I understand the concerns over if he could recruit or not, but his players are very disciplined and runs one of the best systems in college basketball. I think the recruiting concern was a bit overrated, but at the same time I understand the concerns.

He is also ancient.

He is an amazing coach. I'd love to see what he could do with high-major recruits.

I'll also agree that he wouldn't have been a good fit at UT.

Martin is a much better fit for UT than Byrd. Besides, I don't think Byrd would have taken the job anyway.

Rick Byrd absolutely would have taken the job. Thank goodness, Tennessee decided not to go in that direction. He's a good mid-major coach. Nothing more.

He is an excellent coach and does a great job most of the time against teams that have a great deal more talent. I don't think he is a high major coach. Time has passed him by and he is likely to retire at Belmont. UT would have made a major mistake hiring him.
