This may be a complete flop but I thought I'd do a "Rick's Ringers" ala Leonard's Losers for this upcoming College Football season. Just doing this for fun - if anyone else would like to throw their .02 in feel free
Rick's Ringers:
Arkansas over USC 24-21
Why in God's name would anyone pick Arkansas over USC you ask? I give you two scores -
70-17. That's what USC done to the Razorbacks last year in LA. They also had Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush then too. Arkansas was green last year and they had to start with the juggernaut that was USC. Now, this year, Arkansas now has something in it's back pocket and his name is Darren McFadden. The 2nd year tailback showed flashes of excellence last year and he'll have a breakout game vs the Trojans.
22-7. That my friends is the score the last time USC visited Arkansas back in 1974. Also, the year before, just like this past year USC lost in the Rose Bowl. In 1974 Houston Nutt was a ball boy for the Hogs and saw the game. 32 years later it will come full circle on Saturday with Arkansas shocking the world.
Tennessee over California 30-21
The Vols, coming off of one of the most disappointing seasons ever for Rocky Top faithful get a tough draw in the first game against a tough Cal team. Why would anyone expect UT to win this game when they couldn't even get to a bowl last season and was beat by Vandy at Neyland?
They win because they must win. With the season they had last year Fulmer's job is on the line. He brought Coach Cut back to help out and shuffled alot of the staff. If Eric Ainge can perform and at least keep the Vols out of trouble Arian Foster will help lead the Vol Nation to victory over Cal. California has a standout running back, Heisman potential, Marshawn Lynch. After Cal leaves Knoxville the running back the media will be talking about is Foster.
Georgia Tech over Notre Dame 21-17
Tech over the Golden Domers? Yep, you betcha! Notre Dame is positioned to be one of the top teams in the country this season so why can Tech be expected to hang? Georgia Tech will blitz Quinn into oblivion and keep the Irish unbalanced the entire game. They will run effectively and do some clock control and steal one from the Irish. It'll be a close nail biter but I see Tech getting a huge home win.
GAME OF THE WEEK:
Florida State over Miami 38-10
I say FSU and I say it's not going to even be remotely close. FSU is coming off of one of it's worst years in recent memory. Miami is coming off of a decent year but also coming off of a 40-3 spanking at the hands of LSU in the Peach Bowl. Miami, with all of it's offseason turmoil and trouble and high caliber players suspended and kicked off the team won't be ready for FSU. The Noles will send the Canes packing by halftime and dominate this high profile game.
