I was really impressed by all three of those guys.

Riggs ran with more power and speed then I have ever seen from him. At times he looked like Travis Henry out there. He looks much more physical to me.

Rob Smith did an unbelievable job at center. This guy may very well be one of the most valuable players on this team. He is tough and never complains, just gets his job done. I can't say enough good things about him.

Jason Allen as I mentioned in another thread was a monster. He was all over the place and made some huge hits and tackles. He also should have had an interception as he had his man blanketed but could not hold on to the ball.

One thing I noticed about Riggs is that he looked a lot more dynamic. He's always been able to lower his shoulder and punish tacklers, but on several plays he made the first guy miss and showed the ability to bounce plays outside. Maybe it was just me, but I thought he just looked a lot more complete than in the past.

Indeed.

On Riggs, he indeed did well but I wish he wouldn't try to run outside. He should be thankful UT doesn't play in the Big Ten, or he could count on having an ugly meeting with Ohio State's or Iowa's linebackers at the corner. Same goes for any good group of OLB's in the SEC. Get the o-line in sync, open up some holes, let Riggs blast through and work his magic.

If Allen keeps playing like this, UT could have a top 20 pick in the next NFL draft.

I think Allen and Mahelona are first rounders if they play like they are capable this year.

I notice the D-line couldn't pressure Hackney much on Saturday. Maybe that's why Haralson resorted to the late hits a couple times, to try and scare Hackney.

But, at least we're facing mostly shakeable/young QB's for the rest of the season.

Hackney spent the whole freaking day rolling out away from our defense and making something happen on the run. It's hard to sack him when he's over close the sideline and the rest of the players are playing ball in the middle of the field.

I really like that pick from Harrell, that was sweet. I thought that D-MO played well and while he didn't make any huge plays, he was always in the right place. I also thought that Arian Foster showed some good vision and moves on some of his runs.

It's been said on here several times, but I think most of the reason that we didn't get to Hackney was because Hackney is a good QB who reads a defense and gets rid of the ball. On most plays he'd drop, plant and the ball would be gone. I'll bet that 75% of his throws from the pocket were gone within 3-4 seconds.

Yeah, he did get rid of it quickly and let's face it, that's just not hard to do against our secondary....still. Hackney was a beast.

I think the linebackers were having big time issues with pass coverage as well. I saw several plays where LBs would drop into coverage and just look lost in space. They ate us alive with crossing routes and slants that were just in front of and just behind the LBs.

True and that really worries me with UF coming up. Meyer picks on the LB's a lot. I think we will be fine in 2 weeks. Fulmer almost always has his team ready to play away. There shouldn't be any reason that they aren't ready this time.

At least we won't go into the swamp with big heads.

14 tackles for Allen, 3 tackles for Jesse one was the sack for a loss of 8.

Smith you just cant say enough about him, his tattoo reads "God Given Talent" and it fits him well!

Riggs ran tough, got his 100+ thats a great start!

would a 4-1-6 defense work batter agaist both the tigers and gators?...both teams will have to throw the ball to beat the Vols. I say have 6 db's on the field 80% of the time...play soft zone, the switch to man, etc

I counted Hackney's throws and most times he threw the ball in under 3 seconds. Very hard for the D-line to get to him when he's throwing the ball in around 3 seconds

the line didnt pressure him because he rolled out or threw quickly....when he just sat there we pressure him....we had him but he was so big he would stay on his feet and dump it off....and for riggs runnin outside....as hard as he was runnin i dont think he cares so meet a linebacker....hes a running back....they have to be tough....they will meet anyone or they wont play in a big time conference...

does any one know if riggs has slimed down for this year at all? IF so that could be part of the reason that he showed to be a more E or W runner vs UAB.

I heard somewhere he was in better physical shape this year and more "cut".

Question:
I believe it was in the third quarter, Riggs came around the left offensive end, ran into some traffic, spun out and continued down the field.. BUT for some reason was called down after only about a 4 yard gain.
From my vantage point, even the replay showed him still standing/moving when called down - What happened on THAT play? Why was he called down?

They blew the whistle way to quick and said his forward progress had stopped. It was a terrible call, he never stopped his leg movement, sidestepped the guy and went on but once the whistle is blown that is it.

So where was the replay official? Or was this one of those non-reviewable bad calls?

It was non-reviewable. Once the play is blown that is it. If, however, they had let him go and stopped play once he really was stopped they could have reviewed and found that forward progress was stopped before the whistle.
