As hokey as the 60s Batman show was it is a big part of Batman's legacy in pop culture. Adam West will always be remembered for making the most of the role.

The best part about him is that he knew everyone made fun of his Batman role but he embraced it and made a career of it.

Growing up I didn't understand that the Batman show was supposed to be funny. I liked it as a little kid and as I got older and realized how dumb it was I adopted the assumption that TV was so bad that adults used to think it was cool. It blew my mind recently when I read that they purposefully made it hokey. Why?

Either way, Adam West is a legend.

DC Comics called the 60's tv series a mockery at the time. They believed it's purpose was to make fun of it. In a typical scene, Batman would walk into a crowded restaurant in full costume and tell the host, "Can I have a table in the corner so as not to attract attention?" It was campy as hell but the way West deadpanned his lines still made it kinda funny.

I liked seeing all the guest star villians in the original Batman shows -- I wish I still had all my Batman cards from that era
