RIP Carl Torbush

When I was in grad school at UNC, he had some fantastic defenses there. Couldn’t get past FSU in those days.

Dre’ Bly, Brian Simmons, Kivuusama (K) Mays, Greg Ellis, Brandon Spoon, Vonnie Holliday, etc.

Those guys were for real on D. The 1997 team was SEC caliber. Torbush was a big part of that.

Rest In Peace, Coach.

RIP. He did a tremendous job at ETSU. Starting a program from Scratch had to take a lot of patience and experience. He was perfect for the job

Honestly, I didn't realize until a few years ago that Etsu had ever stopped playing football. Grew up in that area and went to many games at the Minidome when I was a kid. Guess it was when the Vols played them a few years back and it was mentioned on the broadcast when I even found that out lol.

Didn't Randy Sanders take over for Torbush? (Yet another UT connection)

It really was. I'm still surprised that he didn't have more success after Mack left with the talent he had. I remember going to school with his daughter in high school. ALS is a horrible disease.. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family 🙏

also, yes Randy Sanders took ETSU to the playoffs in his last year coaching them. He's no longer there.

Sanders did, he was really good too. He took them to the playoffs and won the conference. He also engineered an upset over Vandy.

He retired two years ago though, and the program has taken a pretty hard fall. ETSU hired former Maryville HC George Quarles and its been ugly in his 2 years. Although in his defense this year hes had to use 5 different starting QB's because everyone keeps getting hurt.

That's cool man. I should really keep up with them more than I do. Technically I guess I started my college career there (took a few classes when I was still in HS).

Still have an Etsu hoodie somewhere. Need to bust it out one day. Gonna have to cool down considerably here in Texas first though-we are still at about 85 during the day
