RIP David Bowie

Such a strange yet cool character. Of all the things he did, the movie The Labyrinth was what stuck out the most for me. He'll be missed.

his music style was 10-15 yrs ahead. Never got the complete credit he deserved for changing music, IMO

Ahhhhh ****.

That sucks so bad. I remember as a kid visiting my uncle with my family and the adults were all talking boring crap so I grabbed some bigass headphones (no earbuds in those days) and sat on the floor going thru my uncle's records. I only remember that day because of the vivid memory of hearing Changes and being so taken by it.

Rest easy, sir.

Hits me like a ton of bricks. I remember going over to my best friend's house and we would go thru his big sister's records. She was about 5 years older or so. So your typical stuff a teen would listen to in the early 70's. Until I came across the Aladdin sane album. Strange and scary cover yet intriguing as hell. That's my first memory of Bowie and I've been a fan since. His newest album was waiting for me when I got home Friday. Released on his birthday. Typical Bowie. Unlike anything else. You may not be a fan of his music, but you certainly a big fan of someone who is.

Great performer was this David Bowie who changed his name from David Jones. I always thought he was actually an alien from a distant planet that had come to earth. Back in the late 70s when he performed on the 'Midnight Special' I was stunned by his looks & songs being that it was way ahead of the times. RIP David Bowie.....you will be missed by all the fans.

Posted this in the Movies and Music Forum:

Although I was familiar with some Bowie hit songs before, as well as his roll in Labyrinth, I was really introduced to his music when Nirvana performed The Man Who Sold the World on their unplugged special. As soon as they said it was a Bowie song I sought out the original version on a greatest hits album.

Despite having gone through other classic artist like The Beatles, Zeppelin, Floyd, Stones, Doors, etc, Bowie opened my mind to a new world of what Rock n Roll could be.

I just watched Let's Dance and Modern Love on youtube... I remember those were popular videos when my family first got cable tv and I was introduced to MTV in 1983. Feels like a part of my childhood just left. Very sad.

Reportedly died of liver cancer. Knew he was dying when he made last album. Hence the black star title

Reminds me of Warren Zevon's last album - the shock with Zevon however is that he didn't die much, much sooner.

Seriously, check it out "The Wind" - great album

I meant to listen to his music. A lot of people whose opinion I respect held in super high regard.

May God rest his soul.

Spent the last few days listening to some of his more mainstream stuff. WOW. He did so many genres well.

It's hard to explain what is 'cool' from what is not because different styles work for different artists... but David Bowie was cool and it never looked like he was trying to be. He just was.
