RIP Jeff Beck

In the last 5+ years we have lost 3 of the greatest, most influential guitar players of all time with Chuck Berry, Eddie Van Halen, and now Jeff Beck. Man, this one stings!

I’d add a 4th, lesser known but highly influential guitarist to that list: Alexi Laiho from Children Of Bodom. Jeff Beck was brilliant, though. A real innovator. The guy could do anything he wanted.

My best friend's older brother (he worked at Bowater and seemed like he was a bizillionaire when we were still in high school) got the quadrophonic version of Wired and we used to crank up it up his Marantz 150

I'm not a musician but I've always felt a connection to music. And some musicians more than others catch me, I just get them more than others. Especially guitarists. Sometimes it's as simple as they way they hold a tone or choke it off and wait fraction of second longer to come back in with it. I've just always really felt in time with Beck.

I didn't get into music until later in life and I equate it to horses and their gaits. Horses have different inherent rythyms. Just like guitarists, I felt like Beck got me, and I certainly understood him. RIP.

On a sidenote I love listening to the Yardbirds and hearing their experimentation..... You can literally hear the foundation for legendary albums and songs being put together in that supergroup.

Nobody sounded like Beck. Nobody. I watched a video somebody made not long ago on Jeff Beck and they were talking about how Beck is nearly uncopyable. His playing was so authentic. Every note, every string bend, every harmonic, every whammy bar pull or push, every tone and volume knob turn was so unique, I can't think of another player who used more tools in the guitar playing toolbox than Jeff Beck did. He was a true original.

Beautiful.

Why did the guy have to be interviewed in front of 20 guitars and behind a keyboard? We get it; your a musician.

The guy in that video is a music producer and engineer. He does his videos from his recording studio, because he can break down the individual parts of songs (isolate certain instruments) and explains why certain parts are so great. He’s an incredibly nice guy with zero ego.

it was definitely a great video, and fitting eulogy.

I was finding it humorous with camera angled purposefully at his instruments, as to say 'no ****.'

Yeah Beato is great! I love his "what makes this song great" breakdowns.

this guy's videos breaking down what a guitar player is doing are entertaining. here's his reaction to the news of Beck's passing and a breakdown of yet another performance from the live at Ronnie Scott's (3rd one in this thread).

if you don't want to listen to the general comments about Beck go to about 5:25 when he starts the breakdown - very educational.

I also recommend checking out some of his Guitar Teacher Reacts videos - search for one about a guitar player you like and he's probably done it.
