Former TSU football coach Joe Gilliam Sr passed away today. Just last week a current TSU football player passed away at practice. Lets keep this Tennessee school in our prayers.

Rest in peace Coach.

I know an older gentleman that played for coach Gilliam and he talked about him all the time. But no disrespect to Coach Gilliam but Big John put TSU on the map IMO. I've heard so many story's about Big John and he was a character

Joe, JR passed in 2000--no father wants to out live their children.

Big John's a legend. Loved his cigars. Coached Joe's son former TSU and Pitt Steeler QB Joe Jr aka Jefferson St Joe.

Dang has it been that long ago that Jefferson st Joe passed away. Hope Hines was a pall bearer (sorry bad spelling) for Joe Jr. Coach Doug Matthews was on the wake up zone yesterday and he was talking about when he played at Vandy how big of a Rock Star "Jefferson St Joe" was in Nashville of course that was about the same time as Broadway Joe Namath. Very talented athlete it's sad the way it all ended for him.

Somebody told me a story one time about Big John commenting on his new QB, "I got a QB that is so good that he can throw the football around the corner"
