RIP Coach Thompson. There was no coach other than Dean Smith that I wanted my team to beat more when I was a kid. Legendary Coach.

I first even became aware of the NCAA tournament back in Thompson's days at Georgetown. Early 80's. PJ Carlisimo, Boeheim, etc. Still remember when the tournament broadcast used "This is It" by Kenny Loggins as their theme song. RIP to one of the greats.

The amount of talent in the Big East and ACC back in the 80’s was absurd. The Golden Age of college basketball.
