I'm a cubs fan. Its heartbreaking to hear the stories of him waiting for the HOF call and not getting it. I hope he gets in eventually. I hate that he won't be around to enjoy it. He is what not only cubs baseball should be, but what MLB should be about. Great player, better person. I will miss his passion on the radio.
Another thing that irks me is they don't even consider that he put up the numbers he did while battling diabetes. This was before anyone had a good idea how to go about the business of playing pro sports and deal with it. Heard interviews about how he would be on deck and feel he was feeling the effects of diabetes and hed eat a candy bar and go on. Never made it an excuse.
R.I.P Mr. Santo. You're a hall of famer in my book.
