The day the tea party died - CNNPolitics

I got news for you if you ever bought into the tea party as somehow associated with the Republicans: it was a partisan ruse, designed to give cover to hating Obama. That's all it ever was. It was never serious. The only party more spendthrift than the Democrats are the Republicans, proven over and over and over again.

So balanced. So reasonable. So non partisan.

Thanks, LG.

I initially had high hopes for the Tea Party. Started out with a focus on fiscal responsibility. It quickly faded. Very disheartening when even the "small government/reduced spending" folks are in love with expanding and spending.

It was never going to end well when they started propping up leaders who had no clue about economics. At least it gave us a few good reps

It was the definition of fake news.

I think it was Mitch McConnell who said " Nobody ever lost an election by spending too much." People want "free" stuff.

I disagree. It was a worthwhile movement that yielded a few victories and then inevitably got co-opted and swallowed by the usual suspects.

I actually took that position a few years back: that what started out as a movement about conservative economic principles including fiscal restraint had been taken over by the evangelical wing and turned into a conservative moral values platform.

But in the very next election cycle, lo and behold the claim to moral high ground was completely abandoned to elect someone completely lacking in moral character. The GOP has multiple personality disorder, to say the least.

The Tea Party is dead. It was preceded in death by Occupy Wall Street and the Coffee Party.

I will give you this, it is hard to rectify party platform and party actions with republicans. Values and fiscal responsibility are only token concepts.

Lol the Tea Party died soon after its inception when it was hijacked by right wing stooges who saw an opportunity to make money.

It's been a long time since the Republicans could honestly be called a fiscally conservative party, but still, I bet they never thought they would have such a free spender as Trump in the White House. He is going to spend more in his first term than Obama did (which was during a financial crisis and recession)... that is insane.

There's nothing wrong with hating Obama.
