A classic Big 8 rivalry is reborn in the SEC as the Oklahoma Sooners go to Columbia to play the #25 Missouri Tigers.
The Missouri-Oklahoma rivalry dates back to 1902, when Missouri beat Oklahoma 22-5 in Columbia. The two teams would go on to meet 96 times, including every year but one between 1910-1995 (Missouri didn’t field a team in 1918 due to players enlisting in World War 1). The Big 12’s various rotations only allowed the two to meet 10 more times following that, including such notable moments as #9 Oklahoma ruining #1 Missouri’s opportunity to appear in the 2007 BCS Championship Game and #18 Missouri upsetting #1 Oklahoma in Columbia in 2010. Oklahoma won the last meeting between the two in 2011 and leads the series 67-24-5.
Today Missouri has the chance to…oh let’s be honest here: Missouri’s offense heavily depends on their ability to pass and their starting QB (Cook) is out.
He will be replaced by the 3rd string QB Drew Pyne who, well…Pyne has following stats this year:
- 10 for 28 for 78 yards vs Auburn (that’s it…across 3 quarters from the second play of the game)
- 6 for 12 for 42 yards and 3 interceptions vs Alabama (again, across 3 quarters)
…this one likely is going to get real messy, even in spite of how not great Oklahoma is this season.
