I haven't seen this article from yesterday specifically discussed in this forum.
Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Ask Jamie: Race for top class heats up
Newberg says Texas has the top class right now, but doesn't see how they could land the top class by NSD. The only schools he sees in the running are:
USC
Florida
Tennessee
Alabama
LSU
Notre Dame
I keep a spreadsheet of all the top recruits according to ESPN, Rivals, and Scout and who their top 3-4 schools are. Looking at raw data you would conclude Tennessee will finish with the #1 class. Main threats to me are Texas, Florida, USC and LSU. Alabama a little bit further down. I don't see how Newberg gets Notre Dame up in there unless a lot of the big names are already big leans their way.
I think landing a number 1 class would be huge in terms of instant credibility for Kiffin in terms of keeping the ball rolling with 2011/2012 recruits, and keeping the hype machine cranking in the media.
