Rivals updating recruiting rankings next week?

I think they normally do it in early December then right before signing day.

There's a thread on the main board at Rivals saying the new Rivals 100 is done and will come out next week...with subsequant updates on the 250, JUCO and prep rankings coming shortly after...

Of course, this came from a poster and not someone at Rivals so it may not be legit...we'll see soon enough

I hope so maybe it will give us some more 4 star players some of our 3 stars right on edge

Brent and Paul on TOS said they don't expect any of our commits to get a bump up to a higher star.

They said they feel Randolph, Smith, VD, and Worley all deserve it but they just don't think they are going to give many out.

I think it is BS, if they are top talent give them the star, who cares if you just wrote an article a couple weeks ago saying our class was disapointing...i hate the politics in recruiting rankings sometimes.

I'm sorry-I just don't get it. What if some of our players were to suddenly get bumped to 4 or 5 stars??? Does that make them a better player than they are now? It is a rating-based on someone who might or might not have ever seen the player in person-more often than not-they have not seen the player in person other than those at the camps-the ones they make 4 and 5 star. We get wrapped up in the recruiting rankings because we want to see our VOLS on a top 10 list-but it doesn't matter unless they come in and perform. There is no national trophey for recruiting class rankings. Play it out on the field.

VD...ha!!! :eek:lol:

I agree Eric but Rivals is proving themselves to be horribly arrogant and stubborn this year....

I completely agree that Randolph, Smith and Dallas derserve the bump...I also think Kerbyson and Coleman do...but I don't see Rivals bumping any players let alone as many as 5 on a commit list they just declared was the 2nd most disappointing so far

Regardless, any informed fan that has seen video of those 5 players knows what caliber players they really are...and I believe ESPN and Scout will recognize them as such...so in the end Rivals will just end up looking like stubborn fools when it comes to these players

The most irritating fallacy of recruiting rankings and such, is that you can precisely analyze the effect of recruiting, as it may be judged by recruiting rankings at the time, on a program, as a principle determinant. But those rankings themselves are not the product of any analysis other than abject opinion by people with interests that conflict with what would be solid objective analysis. Posters on web sites do it for fun. Rivals evaluators do it for money. They're all 5*'s if they pick UT until I see them play. But the star debate may possibly be the most fun thing to do in sports.

I totally agree with the premice of this argument, but for national perception and for the fanbase it is good to land top recruiting classes, especially at a place like TN where all our rivals are doing so.

It allows Dooley (not saying he even cares) to point to our recruiting ranking and say "hey fans I know things were rough this year but look how good a class we signed." I know the ratings aren't always accurate, but they are the only thing the casual fan has to go on.

So even though in the end they aren't important, for a rebuilding team in the SEC they are important for perception that your program is on the right track.

Did that make any sence???

I think the perception angle begs the question. Which is more important to have, actual success? or the perception of success?

If Randolph doesn't get a bump in rating, Rivals is about as relevant to me as the the TP I used to wipe my rear this morning. I could live with the others being passed over even though I think it is a joke.

Until Dooley proves (to the Rivals guys) that he can evaluate players, out commits wont get a big bump unless the ball out at a All Star game.

I understand, but until we start having on the field success (which is probably 2012 at the earliest)
having highly rated recruiting classes keeps the impatient fans at bay.

In the end wins are all that matters, but like I keep saying to the casual fan these things matter.

Imagine if we sign the 22nd best class this year and 10th in the SEC(I think we will do MUCH MUCH better), even if all those guys turn out to be studs by time they are So, and Jr.s, but we go 6-6 next year everyone will be like. "Dooley is a fool, he can't win and he is bringing in mediocre talent. He's in over his head, blah blah."

We wont go 6-6 next year, just want to point that out. At worst we are looking at 7-5. We just dont have the Killer schedule and our youngsters will be grown up.

Dooley has to prove something to Rivals? What a joke :lolabove:

He doesnt. But for all the ppl who think stars are what drive a program then he does. For example look at Saban. He is a proven good recruiter and great evaluator. When someone commits to them Rivals will re eval them. One of thier 5 star commits was a low 4 star and then in the next rankings he is magically a 5 star. I dont think that is coincidence.

Oh ya, totally. I think you define here, how exactly rivals makes so much money.

People are impatient, and the average fan REALLY wants to feel like they know more about whats going on with their program than just when games are going to be played.

But really there's nothing to see here until 2012, when Dooley's half Kiffin first class will be juniors. Then we can let the judging begin.

If Randolph & Tom Smith dont get a bump it's a complete joke!! We could all make cases for Worley, Dallas, Kerbyson, Posey, & Coleman to all get bumps but if we dont get Randolph & Smith moved Rivals can shove it!!

So by your confusing english and strange logic....Players that come to UT are not going to be evaluated by Rivals the same way all the other players are evaluated by Rivals? UT recruits are judged solely based upon what Dooley's past recruiting record has been?
