I think they normally do it in early December then right before signing day.
Brent and Paul on TOS said they don't expect any of our commits to get a bump up to a higher star.
They said they feel Randolph, Smith, VD, and Worley all deserve it but they just don't think they are going to give many out.
I think it is BS, if they are top talent give them the star, who cares if you just wrote an article a couple weeks ago saying our class was disapointing...i hate the politics in recruiting rankings sometimes.
I'm sorry-I just don't get it. What if some of our players were to suddenly get bumped to 4 or 5 stars??? Does that make them a better player than they are now? It is a rating-based on someone who might or might not have ever seen the player in person-more often than not-they have not seen the player in person other than those at the camps-the ones they make 4 and 5 star. We get wrapped up in the recruiting rankings because we want to see our VOLS on a top 10 list-but it doesn't matter unless they come in and perform. There is no national trophey for recruiting class rankings. Play it out on the field.
I totally agree with the premice of this argument, but for national perception and for the fanbase it is good to land top recruiting classes, especially at a place like TN where all our rivals are doing so.
It allows Dooley (not saying he even cares) to point to our recruiting ranking and say "hey fans I know things were rough this year but look how good a class we signed." I know the ratings aren't always accurate, but they are the only thing the casual fan has to go on.
So even though in the end they aren't important, for a rebuilding team in the SEC they are important for perception that your program is on the right track.
Did that make any sence???
If Randolph doesn't get a bump in rating, Rivals is about as relevant to me as the the TP I used to wipe my rear this morning. I could live with the others being passed over even though I think it is a joke.Brent and Paul on TOS said they don't expect any of our commits to get a bump up to a higher star.

I think the perception angle begs the question. Which is more important to have, actual success? or the perception of success?
Dooley has to prove something to Rivals? What a joke :lolabove:
I understand, but until we start having on the field success (which is probably 2012 at the earliest)
having highly rated recruiting classes keeps the impatient fans at bay.
In the end wins are all that matters, but like I keep saying to the casual fan these things matter.
Imagine if we sign the 22nd best class this year and 10th in the SEC(I think we will do MUCH MUCH better), even if all those guys turn out to be studs by time they are So, and Jr.s, but we go 6-6 next year everyone will be like. "Dooley is a fool, he can't win and he is bringing in mediocre talent. He's in over his head, blah blah."
Until Dooley proves (to the Rivals guys) that he can evaluate players, out commits wont get a big bump unless the ball out at a All Star game.
