Nice article on Chief Two-Chickens, oops Gonzalez, in the Chattanooga paper today. Coach Fulmer was at practice recently so apparently there is still some interest. The paper listed him at 6'8" 340 lbs and growing. He ran a 5.3 40 at the UT camp. It also mentioned that he played basketball last year and averaged 12 points a game. They had a picture and he sure doesn't look fat. The Chief reference was because he is 1/2 Apache and someone had left him a couple of chickens which his teammates joked that they were for pre-game rituals, not true by the way.
Gonzalez has offers from Tennessee -- he ran a 5.3 40 at senior camp there -- Memphis and Middle Tennessee State. Among teams corresponding often are the Vols (UT coach Phillip Fulmer has been by practice), Notre Dame, LSU, Auburn, Ohio State, Louisville and Colorado.
According to Price, Gonzalez also went to camps at Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Mississippi State. Gonzalez is noncommittal, saying only that he has yet to schedule any official visits. However, he was sporting a UT T-shirt the day he was interviewed and said most of his T-shirts are of the UT variety.
"When I was a (6-5, 250-pound) freshman, I was scared of hurting people," he said. "I didn't think about people having pads on for protection. I was timid, scared to hit people, but the older guys taught me how to deal with it. I like hitting people. I don't lose my temper very often, but I don't have trouble getting ready for games."
"He ain't no fat man, that's for sure, and there's no baby fat on him although he's still growing some," Price said. "He has grown into his body. His motor skills are still catching up, but he's 70 percent better than he was last year, and he made all-state and all-region then."
