With the Vols opening as 28 point underdogs to Oregon and Rocky being the greatest underdog of all time, I thought we could start a thread of Greatest upsets In Vols history or in My lifetime.
Top 5

5. Miami 2003, no one gave us a chance as the Vols ended Miami's home winning Streak.

4. UCLA 1989, one of my favorites as Cobb-Webb was born that day. UCLA was heavily favored.

3. Florida 2001, Travis Stephens runs wild and the vols beat the gators in the swamp, would have been higher if we did not lose to LSU the next week in SECCG.

2. Notre Dame 1991, Miracle in south bend, not only big underdogs but were getting bet like a dog and then the miracle happened.

1.Miami 1985, The Sugar Vols destroyed a heavily favored Miami Team who if they had won would probably been NC.

everyone can list their top 5

I can only speak on the ones from my own experience. My top 5 are in no order:

1995? Bama - peyton & co end Bama's streak
1998 FL OT
2003 @ Miami
2006 Cal (after 2005, Cal was expected to blow us out)
2001 FL in the swamp

Rocky type moments for me:

'82 Bama
'85 Auburn
Jan.1, 1986 against Miami
'89 UCLA
'91 ND
'01 UF

I didn't include the '03 Miami game because, IMO, that team wasn't that great. They had just lost the week prior to VT, if I recall. Yes, they had a home winning streak, but UT was every bit their equal.

Also, someone mentioned 1995 Bama. Again, UT could pretty much stand toe-to-toe with any team back in those days.

85 Auburn was a great game, they basically made Bo Quit that day

I don't remember it but it was definitely within my lifetime: the 1959 victory over No. 1-ranked and defending national champion LSU. With the exception of the 2001 Florida game, most of the games cited thus far do not qualify as instances in which we occupied a position analogous to our overwhelming underdog status with Oregon. Given our top-5 ranking at the time, we never should have been 17- or18-point underdogs to Florida in '01.
