Roku - looming bad news for users of it

Not exactly sure what this means (we have three or four of those roku things for streaming youtube tv)...

Google has said ... Since we haven't been able to continue our conversations in good faith, our partnership for all new Roku devices will unfortunately end on December 9. We are, however, giving Roku the ability to continue distributing both YouTube and YouTube TV apps to all existing users to make sure they are not impacted."

Roku has done this with several content providers and Companies. They are hard to deal with, they act like the Power Company.

I just recently went to YTTV and probably watch YouTube more than any other app including Disney+, Hulu etc...

While I could watch those apps on my tv. I'm not a fan of the interface of my tv. If YTTV/YouTube gets removed from Roku I think I'll go to Walmart and get one of their new $20.00 ONN Streaming devices that's powered by Android tv just for those two apps.

As long as it stays on for existing users shouldnt be a big deal. I have a google chromecast on one of my tvs and I would just buy more of those. Vastly superior to Roku.

I like Roku a lot. It’s very user friendly and they allow a wide range of content. They don’t play BS games over exclusivity which makes others not consumer friendly

In a couple of years a lot of these streaming services will be exclusive to certain devices. You want to watch Youtube/YTTV then you have to purchase a Google Chromecast device, want to see Amazon Prime you have to purchase an Amazon Fire Stick.

You will end up seeing Netflix and/or Disney come up with a streaming device or sign exclusive deals with Roku, Google or Amazon. The same with NBCUniversal/Discovery, Paramount+ etc..

It's a tradeoff between membership dues and device sales, and I'm extremely doubtful that this will come to pass. I mean, what's stopping it from already being the reality? I think I can safely say it's because of all the membership $ that come with being accessible.
