Defensive tackle Romario Cathey never thought he'd be receiving Division-I offers. But now holding four, including one from Texas Tech, the 6-foot-3, 277-pound lineman is planning out official visits for the fall.

Cathey is a pretty likeable kid. He plays hard and is a productive defender. He has adequate size for the defensive tackle position and will need to keep physically maturing and add some more good bulk. He plays some from a "two" and "three" point stance, but is much better with his hand on the ground. Displays a good get-off. He is a physical kid that displays the ability to fire out and on contact derive power from the hips. He flashes good power and can take on a block and hold his ground. He needs to improve at using his hands. He looks on film to have a good wingspan, but needs to bring his hands and create more separation so he can more quickly shed from blocks. Displays the ability to get to a blockers shoulder and push his way up-field. Has solid speed and can seem a bit rigid when running. Plays with a good motor and will consistently pop in the screen on plays downfield. He is a solid tackler. As a pass rusher he bull rush. Needs to develop some pass rush moves, but will work to try and get to half-a-man and work by. Cathey is not a flashy play making machine, but he plays hard and looks to try and play the game smart. Solid prospect who displays some good upside.

I've had the priviledge of watching this kid for 3 years and he is a beast. Very quick and explosive. Has a tendency to go missing at times though...

I live here in Middle TN but havent ever seen him play or really heard much about him. Anyone ever go to one of Maplewood's games?

Not without a bullet proof vest. That area is starting to get cleaned up, but my wife taught in that area and its not exactly a safe area. Dickerson Road isnt anything like it used to be though.

It has started to turn around. When I was in high school there were shots fired under the bleachers there.

I live in Williamson County. Thats why I asked if anyone else has gone and watched their games. Back in the day, I would have gone but now, hell no.

More of these DT prospects will continue to pop up as we get into the fall. We have talent on the D-line for the future but we need more bodies to add depth. Success on the field should help us land some good DT prospects for 2010. With the CC players like Hall and Sykes coming in 2009, our defense can handle not getting any elite DT prospects this year but next year it will be a key position. We need to start recruiting SEC caliber players or we will get killed up front.

The school it self is bad but the neighborhood is far from bad, like I said I have lived 2 mins away all my life and never once had a problem.

Every place in middle TN has its bad spots....not just east Nashville.

^^^ uhh, really?

uhh, yes really. everybody is acting like we will be in a panic if we don't load up on DT's this year. We might have a dropoff in talent for a year but it's not that bad. We should be able to rotate plenty of bodies in 2009 to make up for a lack of talent. We will have 7 potential DT's and 7 DE's(if I'm not missing anybody) for 2009 if we don't pick up any more in recruiting this year. It's not as dire a situation as the negavols are making it out to be.

DT's
D. Bolden- DT, Sr.
W. Fisher- DT, Sr.
D. Williams- DT, Jr.
C. Nelson- DT, Jr.
V. Thomas- DT, Soph
D. Langley- DT, Fr.

W. Brimfield- OL/DT, Fr.

DE's
Robert Ayers- DE, Sr.
Wes Brown- DE, Jr
B. Martin- DE, Soph
K. Brown- DE, Fr.
G. Williams- DE/LB, Fr

Incoming for 2009
Cory Hall- DE/DT, Fr.
Rae Sykes- DE/LB, Fr.
Rufus Williams- DE, Fr.

2009 Recruits
Aubrey Phillips- OT/DT, Fr.

182, I count 5 for next year that will definitely be listed as DT's. Two of those have been busts so far, Nelson/Thomas. Langley isn't known yet.

Brimfield is an OL. You really can't count on Phillips being a DT until he gets to campus.

The DT is in a pretty desperate situation. UT will lose two of their first 4 and they have no ready replacements on the roster. DT is "thin" this year.

DE should be OK with if Bohannon, Walls, and maybe Fowlkes come along.

The seven that I mentioned include Cory Hall's ability to play DT and Brimfield's ability to play DT. I'm not saying that Brimfield SHOULD play DT just that he CAN. Cory Hall seems to be a Justin Tuck type of DT/DE.
A DL with Brown and Martin on the ends with Hall and Williams at DT would be pretty good. We just need some solid depth behind them.

Apparently, Brimfield "can't" play DT. If they'd thought he could have developed into a DT, I don't there's any chance he would have been moved.

I like Williams. I like what I've heard about Hall... and I think Langley will come along fine and be a very good DT.

What concerns me is what it looks like after them. Even if UT gets a great couple of HS DT's to commit, it is still a difficult thing to get contributions from Fr at that position. JUCO's may be part of the answer but they still have to get up to the speed of the SEC.

Oh, assuming Hughes gets in, I like everything I've heard about his potential as well. The trouble is he needs to be in the program this fall to be ready for next year.

I'm not even getting my hopes up for Hughes. Sounds like another G. Williams situation. He does have potential if he can ever make it in.

Will NOT be freshmen.

Hall, I heard, may redshirt this year, but he played last year in JC. Sykes redshirted last year but will play '09 in JC, as will Williams.

Best-case scenario is all three are sophomores next year, but it can't help Hall to redshirt THIS year, can it? That guy needs to play and have two years eligibility at UT.

Again, those '09 guys -- those three -- will NOT be freshmen, and from what I'm hearing, Montori Hughes is a longshot to be here until his junior/redshirt sophomore season.

We need DT help. There are no two ways around it.

I'm an optimist, but where are you getting your info?

If Gerald Williams is a freshman then I'm Jessica Alba's pool boy. Try a sophomore -- and probably a junior. Freshman? No.

If you play in JC, it counts.

Anyway, this Cathey kid looks flat out dominant from his videos. I know they're highlights, but he looks like he can really contribute at the next level. Let's get him
