It is sad for me to see a conservative publication like National Review support a plan that gives monthly payments to families just because they happen to have kids:

Mitt Romney Family Security Act the Right Direction for Family Policy | National Review

Mr Buckley must be rolling in his grave. How did we ever get to this point?

Here's the plan in a nutshell:

Factsheet: Senator Romney's Family Security Act - Niskanen Center

What could be more socialistic/nanny state than this?
More uni-party BS.

Most people in DC don’t care about the people they represent, the constitution or the the country as a whole.

It’s all about lining their own pockets no matter the cost to regular folks.

More kids now means more future taxpayers. What could possibly go wrong with that?

I get your point...Jobs create taxpayers, not bodies. This isn't 200 yrs ago when we needed more people here.

I find it curious that nowhere in that National Review article did they address how to pay for this. That is a sad, sad commentary on the depths of our present day Press. If the NR won't even ask that question then where is conservatism today? How do we get answers to our questions?

LOL. Mitt Romney represents the state of Utah. He's looking to buy votes by creating a bunch of new millionaires in his state.

Looks like reality is setting in on mittens that he’s persona non grata on his current team and he’s gonna go free agent... again...

Wait till the lefties try to get this $3.5+ trillion communist trojan horse across the line. They will be a few short and Romney will stand up and help them pass it. Mark it on the wall somewhere to remind you of this post. He will do it.

Anyone else think Obama did a better job then Romney could have? I didn't care for most of Obama's policies, but the more I see and here about Romney the less I like.

National Review is definitely right of center. Yeah no Buckley anymore but where are Buckley conservatives? I don't see many. He was a libertarian-leaning conservative and today most of those types would call themselves right-leaning or regular old libertarians.

Fun fact, Buckley was pretty progressive compared to people on the right and also had little patience for the conspiratorial-minded (John Birch society). Purging racists and "kooks" from the party was a big priority.

It's hard to say, but if Romney had won in 2008, Hillary probably would have won in 2012 or 2016.
