May 1994 Romney says to Boston Globe he supports abortion rights and privacy rights established in Roe v. Wade.

In 1994 Senate race against Ted Kennedy, Romney says: "I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country." And, "I believe that since Roe v. Wade has been the law for 20 years, it should be sustained and supported. And I sustain and support that law and support the right of a woman to make that choice."

In 2002 campaign for governor, Romney said: "I will preserve and protect a woman's right to choose and am devoted and dedicated to honoring my word in that regard."

In June 2011 in op-ed to National Review, Romney said:

"I am pro-life and believe that abortion should be limited to only instances of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. I support the reversal of Roe v. Wade, because it is bad law and bad medicine. Roe was a misguided ruling that was a result of a small group of activist federal judges legislating from the bench. I support the Hyde Amendment, which broadly bars the use of federal funds for abortions. And as president, I will support efforts to prohibit federal funding for any organization like Planned Parenthood, which primarily performs abortions or offers abortion-related services."

Etch a sketch.

I think its stuff like this that keeps his enthusiasm numbers so low. A lot of flip flops like this came out in the nominating process and there is a real distrust of him for it.

Obama was against the individual mandate; drones; and gay marriage before he was for them

and rendition, executive signing statements, executive privilege, not taking public campaign funds, raising taxes in a weak economy, etc. etc.

I believe the reason he changed was due to the fact that he had a pretty close personal situation where either a very close family friend or possibly even a relative had an abortion and he saw how devastated the mother was and that is why he changed his stance. Anybody else heard this or am I pulling it out of thin air?

Obama on gay marriage, Bush tax cuts, debt ceiling? Libs are really having to stretch if this is the best argument against Romney.

Possible but I think the more likely explanation is that Romney spent his political career prior to his presidential run in Massachusetts. Not unlike how many of Obama's positions suddenly shifted when he had to go from getting votes in Chicago to getting votes in the southern and central Illinois as well.

It's a bad argument because Romney and Obama are shameless shapeshifters of equal magnitude.

As are most politicians on that level.

He needed to be pro choice to win in MA.
He has to be pro life to win the GOP nomination for POTUS .

in 1994 I would have been completely against abortion too. You can add in gay marriage as well. Now I am in favor of people having the option for both. Very few people hold an opinion for their entire life

I agree 100%. Romney has been on both sides of almost every issue. I just take issue with the OP only pointing out Romney on one issue without acknowledging Obama has flopped on a lot of stuff, too. Especially an issue where Romney flopping more than likely wasn't political.
