Not having Ron Cooper will stink in terms of player development because he was consistently able to develop his young recruits into quality SEC secondary players. The majority of his best players at USC were 2 or 3 stars coming out of HS, which is more of a testament to how well he was able to help his players make the transition from HS to college. He has sent plenty of players to the NFL over the past 5 or 6 years including Fred Bennett, Ko Simpson, Jonathan Joseph, and Dunta Robinson. However, as good as a coach as he was, (I only found out about this after he took the LSU) Cooper was said to be a "cancer" on the team and staff. His attitude and behavior towards other coaches wasn't exactly what the athletic department wanted. He was told to find somewhere else to go by the Athletic Department near the end of the season. After the bowl game, he was pretty much forced out and told to find another team. However, smart move by Coop, from 175,000 at USC to 300,000 at LSU for 3 years. Who wouldn't take that? Overall, his coaching was good, but I guess he had to be a major ahole with the other coaches or something like that to get that kind of treatment from the school. Maybe its a good thing, maybe not?
