Ron Paul Wins Straw Poll at R Leadership Conference

When he doesn't get lost in an esoteric critique of the Federal Reserve, he's a pretty strong speaker.

It's too bad that many Paul fans are like Justin Bieber fans, immature and a little too prone to thinking the guy is some kind of deity who can't be criticized.

A very accurate analogy.

There's a radio show host here that calls the Paul supporters Paultards. In that while many people agree to a large extent of what Paul says, his supporters are so crazy no one wants to vote or be associated with him.

I personally like a lot of what he says, but he has no chance in hell of winning the nomination, much less the presidency.

Damn. That's some good work.

I keep hearing this. Ron Paul supporters are "annoying" and "immature". I don't get it. Ron Paul supporters are all heart. They support their candidate more monetarily than anybody. I don't know why they are the ones that are considered "immature"? Mitt Romney has to pay the travel expenses of his supporters just to get them to follow him around the country. At CPAC in 2008, these "free-ride" supporters loudly booed Ron Paul after he won the straw poll. But you would never hear that Mitt Romney supporters are "immature" from a Republican.

So what have you observed them doing to be singled out as annoying/immature?

Ever said no thanks to an Amway salesman? You get that look of disbelief followed by a cult like explanation of how great it is and that you just don't understand. That's what it feels like when you say something negative to a lot of Ron Paul supporters.

Also, I should address this. His supporters don't deify him. We are just in awe of him. From my perspective: in 30 years he's not been corrupted by Washington DC. He represents, politically, the principles I live by. It's not that he can't do wrong in our eyes, it's that he doesn't do wrong. He always votes with the constitution, and to support liberty and rule of law. I don't care about anything else, politically. If Ron Paul had recently voted for the Patriot Act, you would have been sure to see the wrath of Ron Paul fans. The only criticism any honest Ron Paul fan has is that he's not charismatic.

It also should be noted that I was raised to deify Reagan, Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson, etc. It was Ron Paul's reading list that actually opened my eyes to the dangers of deifying politicians. I've since killed a few of those "sacred cow" politicians and the others I still admire but call them on what I see as flaws.

I guess maybe some are defensive. I get it. I tell people I support Ron Paul and people are pretty aggressive in their responses. They'll just tell you straight up "that's stupid", or "he's bat**** nuts", etc.

Just last week, I have a co-worker who saw the Ron Paul rally poster at my desk and she scoffed at it. Then this week she came by to tell me she didn't watch the debate, but informed me that Romney won it.

I am going to knock doors for the Ron Paul campaign. I plan simply to distribute the literature. If people want to ask me questions, then I'll talk to them. You can't make any headway if people aren't open to talking. It's probably counter-productive, like in your case.

what's counterproductive? I've posted before that I actually like Paul. This is exactly the type of response I'm talking about.

I like his style getting to the root of the problems. Telling it like it is. He's the fire and brimstone preacher. People don't want to hear it. They want the watered down version. The feel good gospel. Time to take back this country before it's too late.

Obama would get my vote before I give any of the other GOP contenders my vote.

I'll sit at home while the rest of you guys fight it out over Romney and the rest of those clowns.

It sounded like Ron Paul "fans" had left a bad taste in your mouth. Whether or not you like Ron Paul they annoyed you to some degree, otherwise you wouldn't have said what you said.
