Ron Paul's Piece for CNN

Bush spending like a drunken sailor and not limiting the scope of government is exactly why Americans are disillusioned with the republican party. This is exactly correct.

I still think paul should have ran on the Libertarian ticket with Barr, he would not have won but would have sent a strong message. I really love Ron Paul on paper but like our current prez he just come across all wrong when speaking, he just does not relay his stands very well verbally, you know

Ron Paul says some things that I really agree with, and other things I think are completely out there. There is no grey with him. I love it or I hate it.

Not the same type, man. I understand that there are ideological differences out there...but the white supremacists and conspiracy theorists seemed to line up behind Paul.

The Black supremacists (Farrakhan, Sharpton, Jackson and their ilk), Vast Right Wing Conspiracy theorists, and Peggy Joseph's of the land all lined up behind Obama.

You're reaching, Savage...

...I'm not trying to say that Paul didn't have legitimate supporters...but some of the folks that lined up behind really made me wonder about him. If they didn't make you feel uncomfortable, that's your prerogative. I guess in 60 million people, you're going to get a few oddballs...the problem is that in 1 million Paul supporters there seemed to be a ton of them....

 He isn't reaching at all. This post could have been about Obama, verbatim.

Remus, It's a reach. When all was said and done, there were oddballs that lined up behind both Obama and McCain - they received around 60 million votes each. Oddballs vote...so it happens.

But, if you look at Paul's initial bases of support, when the supporters didn't total 60 million, but probably more like 1 million - the "legitimate" Paul supporters were surrounded by oddballs. Folks came out of the woodwork for this guy.... It was weird....

I don't disagree that a large portion of the Paul base are nuts. I'm honestly not a big fan of the guy. I like Huckabee. The point being, you can't say that there is no comparison between large portions of the Obama base and the Paul base. The largest portion of 'avid' supporters for both are wackos. Black Panthers, Jeremiah Wright, and other race mongers are easily as bad as the Paul supporters.

I'll go on to add the following...

If you want to lump the Sharpton's, etc. as the same type of people as white supremacists...which I don't really agree with, it doesn't really change the math. If there were only one legitimate white candidate and all the white supremacists lined up behind him, it wouldn't seem weird...actually, it wouldn't be surprising at all. But - that wasn't the case...it seemed that many white supremacists were lining up behind Paul - and not other white candidates. Something about him attracted them...it was weird.

The same thing goes for conspiracy theorists. I seriously, seriously doubt that all individuals who buy into the idea of a vast right-wing conspiracy lined up behind Obama during the primaries...in fact, many probably lined up behind the woman famous for the term. However, the conspiracy folks that frequent the interweb seemed to really like Paul....during the primaries...when they had many to choose from, they seemed to choose him.

Maybe it is an unfair assessment...I don't have a strong thesis to support....I'm just calling it like I saw it...and it seemed wacky. I don't really get these vibes from Paul himself (though he did say some weird stuff)...but the high concentration of weirdos in the base of his supporters scared me off....

My point is who else were those guys going to support - there was no other (legitimate) black candidate in the democratic primaries/debates. Why would the Black Panthers line up behind Chris Dodd?

They are the same type of people. Al Sharpton is no different than David Duke. You could interchange the words black and white in either one of their speeches, and no one would notice a thing.

Because of their similarities, I made room for one to lump them together. I said that I don't totally agree with that - probably just from conditioning - but I can see the points well enough to know that in a political context, you can make that point. I wasn't making a point of disagreeing with that assertion...
