We've decided to take our spring break on the road...the Mother Road 😁..won't be able to do it all unfortunately as I only have 11 days. We are gonna pick it up in Missouri and drive to the Santa Monica pier. Anybody have any recommendations..must sees...neat places to stay for the night?..any suggestions appreciated!

Damn, you're going to go from Missouri to California in 11 days? Too much driving, not enough seeing. Slow down and see the country.

Santa Fe is a cool town. Would recommend going off route a bit and staying there rather than Albuquerque.

The Georgia O’Keefe museum is really good.
Here's one question..we are gonna make a side trip to the Grand Canyon....two ways up from Williams or Flagstaff...is either one a better viewing site?

Unfortunately I can’t help you there. Lived out west for 22 years and my dumbazz never went to the Grand Canyon. Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah and Colorado I know.

Take the eastern approach. You can see Sunset Crater volcano and Pueblo ruins at Wupatki. And you do a lot of driving right by the canyon. You can stop at Kaibab and many other points as you head west with less people to deal with. Williams to the visitors center is flat desert with nothing to see.

You kinda can't go wrong. There is a ton of interesting stuff all along the way. If you stay on the old road you'll go right through a bunch of towns. The painted desert and petrified forest are together, and it's one way through. You get dumped out of that sort of close to the concrete wigwam motel. The Grand Canyon is certainly well worth the time it takes.

Cadillac Ranch and the Big Texas Steak Ranch in Amarillo,TX. They’re both kinda hokey but fun.

Winslow, AZ and get a pic at the Eagles mural. There’s a nice little place called Relic Road to eat there.

Stop at the first In-N-Out burger you see. Read about the secret menu. Animal Style is the way to go!

The Grand Canyon is truly one of the few things you’ll ever see that’s even more impressive than you expect it to be.

I would keep an eye on the coronavirus before I started across the country to Cali.

Take some pics! We're hoping to do a 2 week trip next year. Spend a couple of days in Wyoming, then go see our Air Force daughter in Idaho, then go down to the grand canyon before coming home.

That's actually true. I remember standing there trying to wrap my head around what I was seeing and having this weird feeling like my brain was trying to load more data than its bandwidth could handle. At least that's how I describe it now. Back then I probably didn't know what bandwidth was.

Agree about the road from Williams, but Williams itself is a cool little town. They really play up the Route 66 theme. We stayed at the Lodge on Route 66 and ate at the Route 66 Diner. Both worthwhile and some good little shops in Williams.

The National Park visitor's center as you enter from Williams is very good.

Enjoy your trip! I envy you!!
