At Oak Ridge over the weekend: LadyVols Novice A and B boats both made the Grand Final for the first time since 2005. And the A boat took the Championship, and quite frankly, completely outclassed the field. They were pushed for a moment by Purdue in the final, but other than that small moment in time, it was a complete beatdown.

The B boat put on a very good showing against a bunch of A boats. A couple minor issues in the final kept them from finishing higher, but still a great weekend

Strong showing by the LadyVols.

I saw that at utsports.com and meant to say something to you about it but forgot. It's a great time/era for your young'n to be involved in rowing at UT. They are doing really good and just keep getting better.

Did you get to go?

It is truly a great time for them. They are making quite a bit of noise, and I really like the coaching staff. 4 years ago I didnt know a lot about Rowing, and my daughter knew even less. We watched the 08 Olympics and she fell in love with it. I have been learning everything I can about the sport since then, and I can see that this is a super coaching staff.

Even the Grad Asst., who is a LadyVol, is a 2x All American. They know how to teach the sport, no doubt.

I was at Oak Ridge both days.

The first day was very exciting. Coach knew they had a chance to sneak the second boat into the finals. Had to be in the top 3 in the prelim heat in the morning, and then top 3 again in the Semi Finals in the afternoon. The B boat did both of those without much problem.

The A boat won both of their races on Saturday. B boat took a second (to Purdue) and a 3rd in the Semi Final to UTs A boat and UFs A Boat.

The A boat was the best boat there, and they were not even close. Sunday Morning it was obvious that Purdue was going to be the only real threat to the A boat, and it was very possible that the B boat could have snuck past Purdue into 2nd place, but EVERYTHING would have had to have gone right. That didnt happen. B boat had a small issue coming out at the beginning of the race, and made a GREAT effort, pulling back up through the middle and made a real race of it.

I am taking the blame for the B boat issues myself. The first day, as I was getting dressed, I couldnt find a neutral hat. All of my baseball hats either say MSU or UF. So, I put on my yard work hat, and looked a little like Indiana Jones out there.

That night, tKid and I stopped and I purchased my VERY FIRST UT hat. A LadyVols Rowing hat. And I wore that on Sunday. SO. . . . if I had worn my lucky hat from the day before, I think they would have been alright, but I displaced that and wore the Sherbert and Cream Vols hat. . . . sigh. . . :hi:

:) So stinking proud of all the girls. They busted their tails.

Varsity heads to Princeton this weekend, and Novices are back in action in a couple weeks at the Conference championships. Im already excited for that. Ready to roll!! (oh, and I had to teach my 4 year old to say GBO, cause every where he looked he saw Gators and Spartans, and kept yelling GO GATORS and GO STATE!, hahaha, I think I was in a little trouble with Coach!!)

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaahaaa! Great story. You better watch that bad juju with the hats. :lolabove:
The best part is that when I saw my daughter after the first race she was laughing at me and asked "Whats with the hat?"

I told her, "I was going through my hats this morning and I had MSU hat, MSU hat, Gator Hat, MSU hat, Gator hat, gator hat. . . . . so I figured I would just wear this one. Afterall, Im undefeated while wearing it. The lawmower and I completely MOW DOWN the competition"

I didnt realize til RIGHT AT THAT LAST MOMENT. . . . that the coach was standing next to us. . . giving me that "YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING" look. :eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol: [LOLing Out Loud]

So when coach saw me Sunday morning with my LadyVols Rowing hat on, she got a little chuckle to start her day.

:hi:

I may let my boy (who is 4) wear the lawn hat for the next race!!

Thanks, I know that her work ethic, her demand for excellence and her incredible competitive nature, are going to make all of Vol Nation proud. There are some great kids on that team, and Im pretty stinking proud to be associated with it through my kid.

Thanks for accepting me into the family!! (I mean that)
