ESPN BPI

NCAA College Basketball BPI Rankings - ESPN

Has VOLS a 10 seed along with Mamfuss ... you know... that bb school on the other end of the state that's too good to play ball with us.

Admittedly, I only start paying much attention to roundball after football signing day, during the SEC Tourney and bracketology doin's for the dance. I ain't up on what's happening this year. Yeah, I know a bunch are doing the BBB thing, but IMHO that ain't gonna happen.

Do you like RPI or BPI for predicting the dance seed?

this is theoretical, I believe. What SHOULD happen based on BPI ranking vs what will likely happen.

I go with the Bruce Pearl Index over the Rick Pitino Index 7 days a week

The RPI is the one to look at. The committee looks at it as well. BPI is just something ESPN made up to rival Pomeroy ratings. I don't believe the selection committee looks at either of the two, it would be nice if they did though because we are a top 25 team in the Pomeroy rankings.

I think it was discussed last year that the committee can look at any and all sources of information. Things like Kenpom and BPI are becoming more important.

i think they were referring to SOS, Conference strength, out conference schedules, etc.

Not sure I understand what you mean by "they". But I do know that the committee uses things like Kenpom and BPI. It was brought up last year during one of the mock selection things the NCAA now does with reporters.

Does not matter. If the Vols make it in they will be one and out, two and out if they get extremely lucky.

BPI is something made up by espn, just like QBR.

You won't find any other channel or site talking about BPI than espn or it's affiliates.

Doesn't matter. BPI was created on the same foundation as the RPI (along with other things). When the brackets are made, they look at other things besides RPI, a lot of what the BPI uses as well. Margain of victory is not (sapose to be) considered but the BPI factors that in. They also weigh heavier on SOS. The selection committee do look at injuries when teams lose or go on skids and seeding (like the BPI) so again, I don't think it matters.

ESPN wants in the KenPom game. That's all this is

Exactly!

Also, the selection committee does look at KenPom as well so margain of victory is somewhat considered. I was under the impression they weigh more in on RPI because its an older, more established system but KenPom clearly looks at how bad you beat a team. The eye test IMO is just another way to say "this team will travel better" instead of saying it because everything else is pretty much covered.

KenPom is high on Tennessee fwiw

RPI is still looked at the most though
