Rubio 2010 Senate campaign fined $8,000 - UPI.com

The FEC said in a report released Friday that Rubio's 2010 Senate campaign received "prohibited, excessive and other impermissible contributions totaling $210,173.09," The Miami Herald reported Sunday.

Several members of the Republican establishment have been vocal in their criticism of Rubio, backed by Tea Party activists and conservatives as a potential vice presidential candidate.

"He is not ready to be on a national ticket in 2012," former Pensacola Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough said on his MSNBC show "Morning Joe" before the fine was revealed. "He's not ready to be in the Oval Office. He's not ready to be vice president of the United States."

GOP establishment not giving Rubio any love.

Rubio ran hard to the right for the Senate seat, aligned himself with tea party at the expense of the GOP establishment and had no problem throwing them under the bus when doing so. He has since trotted back more towards the middle, but those grudges die hard.

Probably not ready for prime time, sure, but he would dramatically boost Romney's chances in Florida.

(Note: Would not necessarily strongly boost Hispanic support for Romney elsewhere as Cubans generally viewed within Hispanic community as in a far different position than Mexicans).

Hard to argue with Scarborough that a 2 year Senator isn't ready to be President . . . despite the election results in 2008.

I still can't think of a better potential VP candidate.

Florida might be the most important state for Romney to win to have a chance, and he may help close the canyon with the Hispanic vote.

Rubio scares the shiz out of me. He just gave maybe the most warhawkish speech we've heard since Woodrow Wilson.
