Can some please supply a rule or link regarding the loose ball late in the game where tennessee recovers the ball past the center court. It look liked a tn player hit and if so why was it not called over and back? Thanks. The local radio sports guy in Raleigh was bitching about that call and i want to shut his mouth. He thinks he knows it all.

The ball was shot, and off the rebound it became a loose ball. lofton did not have possesion of the ball when he hit it into the back court and so with no possesion, UT can go back there and grab it.

Exactly . . . Batting a loose ball into the backcourt is no problem. It would have only been a backcourt violation if we gained possession before the ball went over the halfcourt line. Lofton was close to having possession of the ball, but he and the Winthrop guy were battling for it and Lofton batted the ball into the backcourt trying to tip it to a teammate.

Tell him too that the clock should have started when the ball came of the backboard and hit a UT player before it went to the Winthrop guy...

That was just surreal to watch. It would have hopefully been disallowed, but that guy really should have made that shot.

Can you imagine how nuts the coaches would have gone if the Winthrop guy had made the shot?

Yep, would have been tough to disallow but it clearly hit a UT guy and the clock should have started. No way he gets the shot off. I can't remember the official cut-off but at some point, all that is officially possible is a tap - not a catch and shoot. The announcers in the Pacific/BC game claimed as much when Pacific inbounded with .2 seconds left.

That's what I was saying at the end of the game. The announcer said there was enough time for a catch and shoot and I was thinking no human alive has a release that quick.

I think either .3 or .4 is where it has to be a tip. I'm pretty sure that in the NBA if the clock stops with less than .3 they automatically blow the horn since it's impossible to even tip a ball with so little time left.
