Earlier today, the House of Representatives passed its non-binding resolution disapproving of the president's plan to send additional troops to Iraq. The vote was 246-182. Seventeen Republicans voted with the Democrats to sound the first strains of retreat

It said:

“Congress and the American people will continue to support and protect the members of the United States Armed Forces who are serving or who have served bravely and honorably in Iraq; and Congress disapproves of the decision of President George W. Bush announced on January10, 2007, to deploy more than 20,000 additional United States combat troops to Iraq.”

Democrats applauded the announcement of the vote tally. C-SPAN cut the sound right after Speaker Pelosi announced the totals. However, Democrat members were clearly visible in the front row, applauding the House of Representatives taking the initial step toward engineering the defeat of the United States in Iraq.

“They won't be able to continue. They won't be able to do the deployment. They won't have the equipment, they don't have the training and they won't be able to do the work. There’s no question in my mind.”
                      - Rep. John Murtha

“(the) idea that we’re going to win the war in Iraq is an idea which is just plain wrong.”

-DNC Chairman Howard Dean

Disgusting.

So if the situation in Iraq is hopeless and un-winnable, then why are we messing around with a non-binding resolution? If the war is a lost cause and there is no longer an American interest, we need to get out of there now. There is no need to spend another dime and lose another life. Conversely, if the cause is worthwhile, we should fight to win.

Either do something or don't. Posturing via a nonbinding resolution is pathetic.

another problem with this is that the GOP is now too terrified of the jackass party to use this vote against them in the 2008 election.

there's no way you can support the troops without supporting their mission. the two cannot be separated, especially with an all volunteer military.

I have to give props to my congressman for absolutely nailing it . . . and he's a Democrat.

Rep. Jim Marshall, D-Macon, was one of two Democrats who opposed the measure. Marshall, an Army Ranger in Vietnam, said the president's buildup was "inconsistent with my general view of how to make our effort in Iraq sustainable and winnable."
But the Democratic' resolution was "akin to sitting on the sidelines and booing in the middle of our own team's play, because we don't like the coach's call," Marshall said, speaking to the House Wednesday. "I cannot join mid-play nay-saying that might discourage even one of those engaged in this current military effort in Baghdad."

I think what he's saying is "Don't be a negaVol."
