Russia Allowed To Inspect Our Nuclear Sites

We can't expect other gov'ts to allow us to inspect their sites if we don't allow anyone to inspect ours.

I'm sure we'll show them every site too. We were promised transparency after all

Interesting tidbit from the article

On another critical issue, Lavrov declared that it would be counterproductive to threaten Iran with more sanctions over its nuclear program -- as he resisted efforts by Clinton to win agreement for tougher measures should Iran fail to prove its program is peaceful.

I thought the "reset" of relations and scrapping of the missile shield was going to secure cooperation on this matter?

This is a ridiculous statement. The only reason we have not been attacked by another govt since WW2 is because they know we will blow them away with our nuclear weapons if we need to. But I am not surprised this communist adm. would do this. They have no credibilty on any issue much less national security.

Each member country that is a signatory of the NPT is monitored by IAEA personnel. Y-12 is routinely inspected by foreign IAEA personnel.

As for worrying about Russia, we not only have gone over and inspected their nuclear silos, of which up around 70% were flooded, rusted and were never capable of launching missiles, but we have been in the process of buying up as much of their nuclear weapons waste as possible, one of the core jobs of Oak Ridge. Hows that going? Read the obit column in the Oak Ridge newspaper and look for all the guys that have died of cancer within 1 year of inspections in Russia.

So we should be allowed to inspect nuclear sites in Russia, Israel, England, etc. but they shouldn't be allowed to inspect ours? Is that what you are saying?

By the way, whatever point you were trying to make wasn't even relevant to my post.

You have proof we are checking these countries sites? The IAEA checks sites and is responsible for checking rogue countries like Iran. The idea that Russia of all countries should be allowed to check our sites is absurd.

You have proof that we aren't? This sure sounds like tit for tat to me.

You made the statement, the burden is on you to prove it. We are allies with Israel and England so I doubt we even care to check their sites. But hey why we are at it why don't we invite Castro and Chavez over to inspect them as well, seeing this adm. will negotiate with anyone.

Wow, nice use of a fallacious argument.

If the IAEA were to inspect Iran, it would be for the development of a program. This is different than the US/Russian inspections which are to ensure that we are in compliance with the arms reductions treaties we have signed.

Here's an example of how it works, including inspection of Russian sites.

NTI: Research Library: Country Profiles: Russia: Nuclear: START I

The idea is to apparently step up these thoroughness of these inspections, though I haven't seen it spelled out that it would be reciprocated....

Also, I believe someone already mentioned American inspection of Russian sites AND Russian inspectors have been allowed to do this before, yes that means prior to this administration.

The idea that countries will rid themselves of nuclear weapons is a pipe dream. Hussein just wants to see this country as we know it fall.

Retarded. He's a pacifist and believes in people. It's naive for a president to believe as he does, but pretending he wants America to fail is senseless.

He does want us to fall. He said at a campaign rally that he wants to fundamentally transform this country? That is a scary statement. Can we always get better? Sure. But transform this country? He does not like out stance as the only super power in the world.

The logic from his comment to your conclusion mystifies me.
