We are considering buying an RV specifically a Gulf Stream Conquest 255BH. An acquaintance is trying to unload it, it's either a 2012 or 2013 model for $9500.

Now I know jack squat about RVs as this would be our first but it looks to be in great shape, seldom used and from online looks to be a decent price. Questions;

1. What are the hidden costs past insurance? Like when you buy a boat you have to buy all the gear, lifejackets and such.
2. How much of a PITA are they to maintain.
3. Any other advice an experienced RVer might have on what to look for and watch out for.

The obvious stuff are linens, dishes, rugs, cooking utensils, pots/pans, a good tool kit, and spare parts for plumbing and electrical. Be sure you get all the manuals for the rig.

Not much, IMO. I think you need a good place to store it out of the weather. A good battery charger/maintainer is a must. Think about how to maintain the tires while it sits for weeks or months at a time.

3. Any other advice an experienced RVer might have on what to look for and watch out for.

Axles, roofs, and the appliances are the long term large expenses. The rig you're talking about is almost new. Stored out of the weather, it should last a long time before things start to need replacing. Good luck and have fun!

^^Thanks. We do a fare amount of tent camping but the thought of buying an RV never really came across my mind until this. Now that we have two trucks, one to pull the boat and one for the RV its doable.

Hog, that sounds like a good deal. They are not a lot of cost to maintain. It will cost a few hundred to get the necessities you will need. We park ours at home and keep the electric plugged in. By doing that granny keeps the refrigerator stocked, cloths in closet etc , we can take off on a moments notice.

In the fall drain the water lines and winterize with RV Antifreeze, you will need to coat the roof every few years.

Camping is our getaway. It is nice to go somewhere, setup and simply relax. There are some great campgrounds in middle Tennessee. You will enjoy it.

Check out the COE campgrounds since you have the boat. Seven Points and Cages Bend would be excellent choices with a boat.

I don't know where seven points is but I'm about 2 miles from Cages Bend. We have tent camped at Defeted Creek, Salt Lick and Willow Creek this year. On our by week we'll be camping on one of the primitive islands on Dale Hollow.

Seven Points is located on the banks of J Percy Priest Lake, address is 1810 Stewarts Ferry Pike, Hermitage, They have some very nice camping sites. It would be worth a short weekend drive to check it out.

The camping in middle Tennessee is far superior to what we have in East Tennessee, IMO.

Dale Hollow is one of my fav to go. Can't beat the scenery and the clarity of the water. Obey River is tops IMO to camp. Willow Creek is ok but not much shade.
