Bama just needs to worry about Auburn. Bama/Auburn, UGA/A&M, Ohio State/Penn State, and Oklahoma/Oklahoma State can really upset the apple cart big time in the next two weeks.
You're right about that.
All that being said, I don't think it matters. Even before losing Tua, this Bama defense isn't championship quality. We're now down 5 guys in the front 7. It's just not gonna happen this year.
Yes, at this point, I have both Oklahoma and the Utah / Oregon winner in ahead of a Tua-less Alabama.
If it was an 8 team playoff, I would have Clemson, LSU, Penn St, Ohio St, Georgia, Oklahoma, Oregon / Utah winner as the first seven. If Bama wins big over Auburn, I would take them as 8th team. If not, come on down Minnesota.
To me, it's simple:
If UGA beats LSU, then LSU, UGA, Ohio State and Clemson.
IF UGA loses to LSU, then LSU, Ohio State, Clemson, and Oklahoma.
I think Bama is out. Their resume is weak. Oklahoma's resume is better as long as they win out.
Oregon will be in the discussion, but their schedule is weak too (as is anyone in the Pac-12 or whatever they are).
If Penn State beats Ohio State, then we could have some serious issues.
But I fully anticipate it will be LSU, Ohio State, Clemson, and Oklahoma.
Saban's best Alabama team was probably that 2009 team, the very first title-winning team.Yeah, someone pointed out to me that including this year, Bama hasn't won its own division 2 of the last 3 years. They're still a great team, but it just never felt like they were on the same level this year as in other championship years.
But of course, next year, they'll reload, and be just fine again, I'm sure.
