Would like to see some folks weigh in on this injury. Twitter is roasting Saban for not pulling him out of the game, calling him heartless, anything to win, making millions while costing Tua millions. It’s brutal.

I think all that is blown way out of proportion. It’s easy in hindsight to reach conclusions, however I think the reality is that it was a very fluke play, and despite what folks are saying about Sabans decision, and his attitude towards his players- I’m 100% certain he hurts for this kid and his family. Tua has a rare talent - as much as I hate Tennessee getting beat by him, we are not alone. The kid is a winner and a competitor. He asked for another series of downs and Saban consented. Neither of them saw what was coming.
Hindsight says previous injuries had him a step slow and could have been a root cause, but I can see how Nick would say “ OK- 2 more minutes and we are in the locker room. What could go wrong?”
Anyway. I hate it for him and his family. I hope he heals and has much success in the future. Doubtful he’ll take another snap at Bama, unless his injury is such that the NFL won’t touch him. I fear that- a hip injury shortened the career of Bo Jackson, and the sky was the limit before that. Ok my 2 cents.

Tua has to learn when to let go and live to fight another day. He all kinds of time to throw on that play...

Also in regards to the injury, sports medicine has come a long way since Bo Jackson. Tua will play in the NFL

Nick Satan is a total arsehole for playing an already injured Tua Tagovailoa and now he's got a serious injury that is career ending most likely:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

His injury could very well be career ending

Freak play. It's a violent, physical game. Hate it for Tua. But the Tide is more than Tua. They have room full of NFL-bound receivers. O-line too. You pay Saban to win football games. As he said after the game, had he known Tua was going to have his hip dislocated on that play, he wouldn't have had him in the game. You have to believe that. Have seen RBs blowout knees late in games that were no longer contested. It happens.

I've got no problem with Saban playing Tua when they were winning like that. It's football. You gotta play. You can't sit half the game because you might get hurt.

I think there is the question of whether Tua was healthy enough to play in the first place. But I don't think that has much to do with the hip. Freak injury.

Hopefully he'll play again. We'll have to wait and see.

As much as I hate Saban and Alabama, he cant see into the future. Any player can get hurt on any play. But...if Tua’s family thinks Saban is the bad guy, I’ll certainly be interested in his brother transferring here.

It was 35-7 and he was already coming off an injury. Absolutely no reason to keep him in.

It would be very nice if his brother transferred to Tennessee for sure:cool:

Tide has good recruits for sure, but a player like a Tua is rare. Sure- next man up. But Tua types don’t grow on crimson trees. Tide looked different when he went out against Tennessee and they didn’t add much to the score after the injury. Did they take the foot off the gas, probably in the case of MSU. The Auburn game is not a “gimme” now with Tua gone.
Tua is a once in a decade player, much like Peyton was. Bama had the good fortune to have two of these (Hurts) on the same team at the same time. That is as freakish as the injury. He won’t be that easy to replace.

Tua's ability to make pinpoint accurate throws against top flight competition is what sets him apart. In his case he makes his WRs appear better than they actually are. Go back and watch that throw into the end zone for a TD against LSU where he placed that ball, Now, is he a pane of glass that could never last the grind or hits associated with an NFL season? Possibly, time will tell, but somebody will take him early in the draft if he doesn't come up with a necrotic hip.

I thought from the beginning it was a bad idea to play him at all. He was limping off the field vs LSU, another week off would have helped him. They didn’t need him this week.

Did his injury affect his hip injury? Probably not. But I read many former Bama players were upset when they saw Tua was starting because they knew it was likely he would get reinjured.

As for Saban. I don’t know what he thinks of his players. But his sound bite “I don’t think about kids getting hurt” was terribly. I know/hope he didn’t mean how it came across but it certainly does not help his case.

Absolutely NOT defending Saban as being a human but, based on this story from Evans, it would seem the Dolphins didn't have a medical staff to attend to James.

Seems pretty flimsy in my opinion.

Saban can definitely be snippy. He will bite a reporters head off with the wrong question. I was waiting for one to ask “why did you still have him in there?” Nobody did. It would have been ugly for that reporter.

On the other hand- you have Paul Finebaum coming on tomorrow. I can’t watch him- he has some real idiot callers that make it unwatchable to me. Finebaum has made his living finding a flaw in a coach and picking the scab. Will he throttle back the irrational portion of the Bama fan base that call in with these questions, or will he stoke the fire?

Another by product of this- Tua’s injury coming on the back of the LSU loss will put Saban in the crosshairs of the bandwagon fans, of which Bama has many. To add to the drama, Hurts had an amazing game against Baylor the same day. Will he put up with it? He can walk away any time. Could this be the event that may accelerate his retirement? Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

The kid has been rehabing from an injury. He needs playing time but he also needs to learn to protect himself when they are ahead by 30 and dominating. Throw the ball away. His last 2 injuries he could have escaped untouched and they win both games. He has a canon arm I would not allow him to exit the pocket just fire that canon or fall down.

Agree, would go so far as to say you can't replace Tua. Maybe the biggest difference maker at QB since Namath...my point is that Saban has a responsibility to the entire team to put them in the best possible position to win. There were 3 other Tide players-Henry Ruggs, Raekwon Davis, and DJ Dale who left the game with injuries and did not return. That's alot of offensive and defensive production right there. But you can't just take those guys out and not play them because you're afraid they will get hurt. Saban kept his foot on the gas Saturday, and unfortunately one of the most popular players in college football may have suffered a career ending injury. Guys like Tua want to be in there. They want to compete. I have much more respect for Saban and Tua than for all those players who passed on a meaningless bowl game (basically quitting on their teams) because they didnt want to get hurt and jeopardize their futures.

I don't know. Decent arguments to keep him out; same to keep him in.

If I'm MissSt I'm more bothered by him referring to keeping him in as wanting him to get "practice" (at running the 2 minute drill).

Clearly keeping him in wasn't about securing the game - it was to help for future games. Can argue that either way I guess

It looked like Tua was trying to protect his injured right ankle when he went down on his right knee instead of diving forward normally. When the 2 MSU players landed on Tua with him being on one knee caused all their weight to land on his hip. So .. I think this "unusual" hip injury was a direct result of Tua favoring his bad ankle which caused a more serious injury.
