Saban goes off on Bama fans

For a 70 year old he sure as hell doesn't look or act like he's ready to retire. Saban has changed with the game every step of the way and he'll figure out how to use NIL and the portal to his advantage like every other thing

Because the great one learn how to adapt . Others don’t and win one championship when the foundation was set for multiple titles.

That’s great. It must have been a really ignorant question he was asked. I could tell he wanted to use some more colorful language and really say what he thought about it, but held back some. It’s gonna be so sweet in a few years when he’s gone, and they suck again and their spoiled, entitled fan base has a major meltdown. I might actually watch the Paw Finebaum show to listen to them then.

With NIL, transfer portal, etc he might be getting ready to say “*** this”.

I highly doubt it.

This rant is directed at their own fans (which is absolutely hilarious - he barely veils his contempt for their fanbase), not the fact that players can get paid now. He's the only coach on the planet who could get away with this because of how much he wins.

I kind of like it that he ripped them a new one. They are the most self-entitled, bandwagon fan base that there is. Beating two rivals by only 7 points just isn’t enough for them. Sign of the apocalypse. They think Bama should just show up and beat teams by 50 every week. There is going to be some real whining when Saban retires and the inevitable slide begins.

That's a very good paraphrase of what he just said.

Saban may be a little pissier than usual after seeing coaches like Mel Tucker and James Franklin get "near Saban money" for decidedly less than Saban-like coaching careers.

I assume Alabama will just hand the keys and passwords to Regions Bank to Saban and walk off.

I doubt it. He ain't coaching for the money anymore, and hasn't been for many years. I think he is just super annoyed by their fans and boosters - I think he sees them as external factors that make his job harder.

I think Saban desperately wants to win #7 this yr and get out. I think that’s why he’s been so supportive of this bunch of players when normally he’d let them have it.

I’d be surprised if a lot of college guys don’t try nfl soon. Coaching is coaching but it’s turned into a lot of other bs

A lot of coaches aren’t going to want to deal with the NIL in college.

I could see several college coaches transferring over to the NFL that just want to “coach”.

Definitely. It will be much worse than it was in the 80's, after Bryant's retirement/death. Bryant did have some down years in the middle of his tenure (1969 and 1970). Saban's consistency amid nonstop staff turnover has been remarkable. By the time the end finally comes, Alabama will have an entire generation of fans, who will see a 10-3 season as failure.

Saban is wrong in thinking that no fan wants to win more than the players, no matter how big of a fan they are. I don’t see the players shooting one another after losses, like the fans do, so I’m inclined to think they don’t want to win bad enough.
