Sort of....

‎Anyone who doesn't win their conference has no business playing in the national championship game.

Personally, I think Bama is the second best team and deserves that spot, but I don't want them to get it.

The whole BCS system stinks.

Its like placing the Yankees and the Red Sox in the World Series because they are the best teams. Nobody else in the country gets a shot at them.

2 best teams < 2 most deserving teams

Any team who doesn't win their conference doesn't deserve to play for a national championship.

Hate to say it but after doing just a tiny bit of poking around, it doesn't look like there is much evidence that ties this quote back to Saban. I'd love someone to find a source though, because I wish this was true.

Also, here are his current thoughts on the situation

You may be right. This quote is all over message boards, but I'm not finding a good source. You can find anything that was said by anybody today, but I'm wondering how viral that statement went as little as 8 years ago.

Evidently he did say this:

"I don't think anyone will know who the legitimate national champion is unless all three teams in consideration get the opportunity to play one another," LSU coach Nick Saban said.

Which should rule out Bama anyway. LSU already beat bama. Should be whoever is next.

BCS screws Auburn in '04. BCS unfairly benefits Alabama in '11. I'm actually beginning to see the benefits of the system.

I agree. Not only did they not win their conference, they did not win their division. They should not get to play for a National title regardless of what happens in the SEC championship game. However, it won't matter either way. If they play LSU again it is another *** whipping.

I agree, but until the BCS puts it in writing then it should be the the top two teams. To be honest, I think Bama fans are a little embarrassed at the prospects of not being a consensus number one if they do win.

Bama is probably the second best team. It will be fun to watch and I will enjoy Alabama losing again even more than I did the first time.

Bama ran up and down the field on them and if their FG kicker was just a little better they win. I personally think Bama outplayed them. I think they are way better than any other team out there. Why should a team from a pugina conference get to play for it with one loss. This is the reason the BCS sucks hairy nuts. It is BS.

Just like Tennessee did the year Bama won the title. Does not mean a thing. I agree Bama has the second best team in the country. Why does LSU have to beat them twice to prove it. Bama will not have home field this time either. Bama still has the same kicker and LSU still has a better coach.

LSU has a better coach? That is rediculous. Les Miles is a lucky Buffoon. Bama still beat them up and down the field. As far as the two times deal, it happens in the NFL why shouldn't it happen in CFB? Sometimes a team has to go through another good team in their division 3 times to win it all. The NC game is what matters. If LSU beats them again, then I will say they are better. I hate both of em, so I really don't care.

This conversation needs to end now.

Is Les the best coach in college football? No. Does he have his weaknesses? Yes.

But how many coaches could have pulled off what he did with Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson? Almost zero. He does a great job of managing players, and puts a great coaching staff around him. Does he get lucky? Yes. But people always forget he puts his team in a position to get lucky. Not too mention that he has 100% belief in his players, and that they return the favor for that.

He's going to win two SEC titles in seven years at LSU, and he's got a great chance for a third next year if Mettenberger is the real deal at QB. I think this year (if he beats UGA) proves that Les Miles actually can coach.
