Saban should have stuck with Hurts!!

Saban is all about Saban always has been and always will be. You know he regrets playing tua being up 35-7 -last night, this morning, and forever as he and his team just pissed away their chance to win another natty and that is what the turd is all about - win at all cost mentality. It was a dumb move because anyone can get hurt in football.

It was a dumb move to even start Tua. State wasn't winning this game. Any one of the three 4-star QBs Bama has on the bench could've started and the outcome would've been the same. Just hand the ball to Najee Harris.

I have always felt Saban put too much stock in Tua and abandoned the big physical tough persona Alabama has been known for. Also by keeping Tua over the veteran, once Hurts left, Alabama was left with nothing as a backup behind Tua. They go into next season with a huge question mark at QB and WR, and defense after losing 8 early draft picks. Had they kept and played Hurts through this season Tua would then start his RS JR and Sr years, he still would have been great and he would have likely avoided the injuries he's suffered. I bet Saban wishes he had a healthy Sr leader in Hurts right now.

Vols situation with JG and everyone wanting the young guys to play now is very similar to what Alabama was going through with Hurts and Tua. I think it would be suicide to run JG off and put our faith in the young unproven QBs. Senior leadership with lots of snaps under your belt will always be your best bet to win unless the talent is clearly different and the younger player is on a different level than everyone else. QB room will be a plus if CJP can get them all to stay as well as add Bailey.

This years basketball team is fun to watch, looks like a tournament team to me! :)
I agree 100%. Saban kind of threw him to the bench and never looked back. He is now suffering because of his lack of the foresight and wisely preparing for the future. His greed and ego has lowered his effectiveness as a coach. Time for him to think about retiring or his team played a very poor game against LSU and deserved to lose. Maybe he is just getting old and it is beginning to show.

The sad thing, he should have kept Tua out of the game to heal, now, a hip injury....irresponsible if you ask me.

True. I said before the game I wouldn't have started him. I would've wanted him healthy for Auburn and a possible playoff spot. I said the same thing about Maurer starting against Bama. Felt like we needed him healthy for the last 5 games. It's a tough sport and injuries happen, but when you put a player out there who is less than 100 percent, it's hard for him to make plays AND defend himself. Saban's response was idiotic. Tua needs to practice the 2 minute drill? Just tell me you thought the game was still in question. I might have bought that.
Again though... He's not playing unless he's medically cleared and his injury had zero to do with the ankle. It's easy to paint Saban as an a-hole, but to me it's just a fan thing in this case.

I doubt he will be honestly, they're bring in Bryce Young who is a five star QB. He's going to be the favorite to win it, but you never know.

You think Tua's brother was not 5 star? LOL He starts, you do NOT want that family exposing how they ended up in Alabama being moved there from Hawaii.

Whether it is bone structure, or whatever, Tua appears to fragile.

Same as Titans QB Marcus Mariota.

For some reason, neither can navigate a full season.

This is just asinine. He’s long had bad ankles, a redshirt year and the fence wouldn’t fix that, just prolonged it, and the hip injury was a freak incident not connected at all to him starting early.

Agree with this. Plus, the ankle had already been tested against LSU without incident. If Tua is still playing in the second half of a blowout, I would agree with the criticism. But, here, it seems hard to justify...even though bashing Saban is good fun.

So Trevor Lawrence and all the other young players that play well should sit out 2 or 3 years before they play??? Do you want JG to start next year above Maurer and HB? Reminder, Maurer has been injured a couple times this year. Tua is a Junior.
Basketball use to have a rule that Freshman could not play varsity and maybe that was good thing. It gave the student time to adjust to college life, school, and building up their bodies.
Saban did give Tua most of his Freshman year to adjust and play behind Fields until the very last game so he did not become a starter until his Sophmore year.
Bad injuries happen all the time in football.

That rule applied to football too. It went away after the Marshall plane crash. Before then, if the varsity team was on a road game, there were one or two freshman team games at Neyland every season. I remember one I attended was against Georgia Tech. They gave free tickets to those games to FFA, FHA, 4-H, Scouts, and the like.

But I thought Hurts played for Bama, and Fields was a freshman at Georgia. Or was there a Fields guy at Bama?

Good post, definitely not trying to defend Sabans decision but If I'm not mistaken many believed Tua would transfer if he wasn't the starter after the NC game and had he transferred his brother probably would have went wherever it was Tua transferred to. So I guess Saban felt like he'd rather lose 1 QB instead of 2. However they could still have both if it'd been handled correctly. I agree with you Hurts is a good leader and is ballin out at OU so I bet Saban is wishing he had him back. Yeah the basketball Vols look pretty good excited to see how the season goes.
Go Vols

Might as well wrap everybody in bubble wrap then. It was a freak injury that was unrelated to anything previous.

True but Tua has been proven to be extremely brittle. I know there was a thread last year that said what would Tua be like if he and JG switched spots and someone said "Dead"....

Exactly. There is not a college football coach in America that pulls the starting QB in the first half of a 35-7 game.

That is true. And in this case, I am sure Saban is wishing he had broken with that trend. Freak injuries have a way of making any coach wish. I can only hope Tua recovers.

Nick Satan's arrogance and stupidity will probably result in a career ending injury for Tua Tagovailoa:mad: The health of your starting quarterback in more important than impressing voters and making the Playoffs:rolleyes:

Saban didn't cause Tua's injury.... Hel-, if you sit out a guy to keep him from being injured, you would never play him. Injuries are gonna happen. As to this injury: I have watched football games from middle school to pro this year and have seen this kind of tackle probably over 100 times. Over the years, likely 1000s of times. Don't remember when I have seen it produce an injury other than (miss a play or two) maybe ever. This tackle did not look to be a "rough tackle" just a common tackle. DUMB LUCK !!!
I did hear the TV team, after the dust settled, talking about recovering injuries breeding injuries. I though this was a good point.

Are you sure about that? How familiar are you with Alabama's depth chart at QB?

they have six QBs left including Mac Jones who will probably be the starter now...more a manager, definitely not a Tua...doubt they beat Auburn...next year Taulia, Tua's brother, will definitely get a shot...he's pretty good for a youngster...:D

GO BIG ORANGE...BEAT MIZZOU!

Jeff Rutledge had a long career primarily has a backup.

I sat next to his sister stepanie in 8th grade in ohio. And yeah held for extra points in the nfl. Still that was 40 or so years ago.

What have you done for me lately.

Tua coming in and leading the comeback against Georgia and winning the national championship he had to start he looked better than Hurts. Tua has just had crazy injuries or he is injury prone but there was no doubt Tua was ready to play.
